As we really are in the thick of the winter months right now, I find myself craving darker and more flashy nail varnishes. Not necessarily gold glitter every day (that usually kicks in about a third of the way through December) but certainly vampy or glitzy shades to cheer myself up in the bleak winter months.
Orly Velvet Rope is one such shade. When I was picking some shades out from the website, Velvet Rope looked like a dark purple creme. So imagine my surprise when it arrived and I found that actually it was dark purple alright, but it was a super shiny frost absolutely jam packed with silver glitter. Even better! I have a ton of dark purple cremes but definitely nothing like this.
This was also one coat. Pretty impressive eh? It is totally pigmented and smooth and applies like a dream. I do love Orly – when they get it right, they get it really right. Also, the glitter stays silver and hasn’t absorbed the pigment of the purple so it really stands out and twinkles like stars in the night sky. And it’s completely smooth – no grittiness or thick layers of topcoat required here. Seriously impressive.
What do you think? Is this something that you’d be happy to wear?

Love it 🙂
Great polish. I was so happy that the glitter wasn’t hidden. Nothing more annoying when you see some nice glitter in the bottle then you apply polish & it’s gone! Looks wonderful on you.
This looks rather like Rimmel’s Pompous, which is one of my girlfriend’s favourites – she kept borrowing mine (I like it too) so I bought her a couple of bottles for herself (!), as it is cheap. Pompous may be just slightly darker, but very much the same concept.
By the way, is there a way to ‘follow’ comments to particular posts on your blog (or get emails when there are updates on that post) as I haven’t spotted a way yet, and it would make it easier to comment and then see responses…
