YDKJ4

As far as I am concerned, this is the polish that launched a thousand taupes.

YDKJ2You Don’t Know Jacques, for those of you who have been hiding under a rock fot the past year, is from OPI’s La Collection De France from 2008. I own more polishs from this OPI collection than any other, as to my mind it is one of the stand out releases from OPI.

I ummed and ahhed about buying YDKJ for ages as this was before the days that I knew about nail blogs or MaleUp Alley so I really wasn’t sure what to expect. But in the end I gave it the benefit of the doubt, and my word I am glad I did.

YDKJ1Quite definitely one of my favourite polishes of all time. Not only do I love the name, I love everything about it. It is a rich dark creme that is a real hybrid of brown, grey and green. It looks browner here, under artificial light but really it is closer to the bottle colour, grungy, mossy and was quite unique, until others got on the bandwagon.

Always a little sheerer than I expect, it does take a couple of coats to build to that perfect finish. But it is worth it as the finished result is shiny, glossy and a real stand-out.

YDKJ3I went to the shops for the first time in ages yesterday and was surprised by the array of winter coats avaialble again. And new boots, and big chunky cardigans.

Is it wrong that I’ve already got a gorgeous pair of fawn suede boots on my birthday list (November?) Had I not been on a no-buy, believe me, they’d have been coming home with me that moment. I love the autumn, for all the reasons I’ve listed above, plus it is spectacular when the leaves change colour, and you get those freezing cold days with the bright blue skies.

That is when YDKJ comes into its own. The perfect autumn polish. It is the same colour as my favourite everyday leather handbag, and will go brilliantly with those new boots…..

  1. BAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I have a love/hate relationship with the color. I love the color, but in its matte version, more. I found 5/6 of the mattes on clearance for $2.67. YDKJ still eludes me. The cheapass I am, refuses to pay $5 (transdesign price) for it. I like the matte version because the regular one makes my skin look diseased.

    jealousss

  2. Yay to YDNJ, it’s in my best-ever top 5, and it’s on my tips right now – I needed the random compliments today. (I even got them the one time I had only time for one splotchy layer)

  3. I’ve been waiting for you to review this one, as you have raved about it in the past! You’re right – very nice indeed. D’you think it would work as a toenail varnish? I’m branching out with nail varnish colours, starting with my toes, which are currently a Rimmel green!

  4. I don’t own this but it’s on my list! I will definitely have to buy it next. I love this shade on you. Your nails look gorgeous. I know I love it in the suede look. I also like it matted. When I crawl out from under my rock I will buy it!

  5. plese please cut your nails cruella!!!
they do not look nice at all. they are very cheap looking, even though the colour is beautiful.
