OPI Off With Her Red

Read Time:2 Minute, 34 Second

Firstly, as the White Rabbit would say, “I’m late!” I am very, very late to the Alice in Wonderland party. In fact, at this rate, the movie will be available on DVD. There have been so many exciting things we’ve wanted to talk about lately that the scheduled reviews are piling up. Oh well – you don’t come here to get the scoop on new things, do you? Just as well really.

Off With Her Red is, as I jut mentioned, an OPI polish that has been released as a tie-in with Disney’s new Alice In Wonderland film. I’m not really a fan of Tim Burton (Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter in every film? Jobs for the boys? Much?)  but I have to say that I am intrigued to see this one. The promo shots look fantastic, and I like the colours – very bright and vibrant.

I was really stunned and thrilled when Dawn from Radiant Babe contacted me to say that she wanted ot send me the Alice mini-collection for an early wedding present. How sweet and kind of her! And I wasn’t going to say no – it’s better than a toaster, and I believe it is the gift that keeps on giving, even though my fiance doesn’t exactly share my enthusiasm – it makes me happy!

I have a bit of a thing where I like to eat the food on my plate that I least like the look of first, meaning I get all of the nasty vegetables out of the way before stuffing myself on roast chicken and roast potatoes. I have much the same approach to some nail polish collections. I wanted to try Off With Her Red first as I thought it was the weakest of the gang.

In actual fact, I really liked it. OK, so you look at it and think “just another OPI red creme” and to a certain extent, it is.  Except it is kind of orange. This is a really strange shade, a kind of burnt orange with red tones, rather than the other way around. Application was wonderful but like I said in my review of OPI’s Suzi Skis In The Pyrenees, cute as they are I do find the little bottles somewhat fiddly. with my gargantuan hands.

I don’t know if I applied this as well as I could have done with a larger brush as I did find that I had quite large chips by the end of 24 hours. I think this might be to do with me rushing a bit, and trying to wield the small brush.

Anyway – it’s a good colour. I like the fact that it is a rust coloured shade that is slightly different from the usual hot reds that OPI release. And of course, I like the name!

I have the rest of the Alice In Wonderland polishes to bring you in due course, but in the meantime they are available from Radiant Babe at £10.99 for the mini-pack of four, or £6.99 each for a full sized bottle.

  1. This is nice, but I don’t think I need another OPI red! Not just yet anyway….

Has anything from the Hong Kong collection caught your eye? I was actually glad that I didn’t want anything.

  2. It’s OK – a really good colour on you. Not worth more than £2.50 though. Maybe a BIT more but not £6.99 plus postage.

  3. Looks lovely on you. I skipped the reds and just bought the glitters. It is different from what I thought it was. What happened to your nail?

  4. I got the big sizes of all of these(swatches on my blog), I’m a bit of an Alice nut. I actually think “thanks so muchness” was the weakest of the 4 and I love the other 3 equally. I think the best description I have heard of this is as a tomato red, not red but not orange.

  5. I’m kind of on the fence about the HK collection as I don’t think there’s anything really unique there. But I may change my mind when my no-buy comes to an end!

  6. Ahhh this is quite an old picture, the nail broke, really short, and I decided I couldnt be bothered to patch it for once!
