OPI Not Like The Movies

Read Time:1 Minute, 33 Second

I was in the Illamasqua store the other day chatting to make-up artists/sales assistants Amanda and Daniel, and our conversation went a little something like this:

“What’s that nail varnish you’re wearing? I love it! It’s amazing! Where can I get it?”

“It’s Not Like The Movies, one of the OPI Katy Perry shades”

“Katy Perry? Oh no, really?” *disappointed faces*

Katy Perry. Not cool.  This nail varnish? Fantastic. So once I’d reconciled myself to wearing something that derives from a candy pink pop star, I can truthfully say that Not Like The Movies is probably one of the most exciting and interesting polishes in my collection. I wore this out and about at the weekend and obtained so many compliments from everyone who saw it.

Application is annoying in that this is pretty sheer. I ended up painting two coats over a grey creme base and then it was absolutely fine. Better than fine. Not Like The Movies is the most awesome grey/green and lilac/silver duochrome. Seriously, it’s insane. And as if that wasn’t enough, it also contains tons of silver fleck. Not glitter, as this is perfectly smooth, but little bits of silver shard that catch the light and blink away on the surface of the nail.

The Kary Perry range of nail varnishes sold out pretty fast. Launching in January, people got very excited about the black shatter topcoat, as well as the glitzy polishes. Personally, when a varnish is this exciting, I wouldn’t want to cover it up with anything else but you all know I’m not a mega fan of the shatter finish. At the moment, this polish is classed as “hard to find”. But I believe that stocks are being replenished and it may well be coming back again, so keep your eagle eyes out.

  1. Luckily I’m not feeling the love for this. PLUS I’m not buying OPI after their sell-out so that’s all good!

Looks very tidy and all that but this just hasn’t made my radar ping and it must have been on loads of blogs…Good thing we all have different tastes.

  2. It does look very pretty, I could even overcome my OPI apathy for this one, if only it wasn’t so sheer. OPI did the same to me with Brand New Skates, I *love* the colour, hate the sheerness.

  3. Fantastic idea layering this over grey polish. Looks so gorgeous. I haven’t been able to get any shatter polishes or the Katy Perry polishes. I bought some of Kae’s frankens from her sale. They’re amazing! She also sent me the OPI Blue Shatter. I couldn’t believe it. I yelled out loud when I opened it. Now I have a shatter polish.

  4. I can understand their reaction – I didn’t want to have to buy anything Katy Perry – but I am so glad I did as I love this! I think I only needed 2 coats, or maybe it was 3 thin ones. Either way, I definitely didn’t feel the need to layer it. You’ve captured the colour really well Helen.

  5. Leanne – Hopefully it will be coming back. If not, keep checking eBay…

Jen – I admire you taking a stance re OPI. I have so much though…

Cali – I had the same thing re Brand New Skates as well. Disappointingly sheer.

Lucy – Glad you like! Hopefully you’ll be able to find this somewhere.

Andrea – I wonder if my bottle was more sheer as this wasn’t up for building at all. And yes – Kary Perry? Not my bag really!

Britny – Long time! Glad you like!

Anna – I think it was Rescue Beauty Lounge Concrete Jungle.
