Katie Piper – My Beautiful Face

Read Time:1 Minute, 13 Second

Last night I watched a Cutting Edge documentary on C4 about Katie Piper. For those of you who don’t know who she is, Katie is a British model and TV presenter whose career was cut tragically short when her face was destroyed in a vicious attack. Katie had been dating a new boyfriend for a couple of weeks and after sexually assaulting her, he then paid a homeless person to throw sulphuric acid in her face.

The programme last night showed Katie’s rehabilitation, and the daily grind she has to go through to reduce her pain and scarring. She no longer goes out, has to be fed via a tube into her stomach, and has to wear a plastic mask for 23 hours a day.

What I was most impressed about was that far from feeling sorry for herself, Katie maintained a sense of grace and good humour throughout the programme. There were a few mentions of how humiliating it was having to be cared for by your parents at the age of 25, but overall the programme was positive and thought provoking.

It is a tragedy as she was a beautiful girl but I was so impressed with her courage and ability to just deal with it. Such a cliche, that beauty is only skin deep, but just imagine having to go through the trauma that Katie went through and still come out smiling on the other side.

  1. I give her enormous credit for being public with her story. I’ve read about Middle Eastern women who have gone through similar struggles. Sharing her experience can bring a spotlight to such terrible crimes and help women in all parts of the globe.

  2. I missed the programme but had read about her. Such a shame to think a guy could have been twisted enough to destroy her life like that.

  3. What a pity that had to happen to such a lovely girl. There are so many sick twisted people in the world. She must be in such pain. She is very courageous.

  4. im only 14 n been wid loadz of guyzn n didnt sum1 wid do summin lyk dat , katie u were reallli brave n brave nd wen i watchd da documentary i woz in tear ;.(
