Dr Organic Pomegranate Lip Balm

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

I bought this in Holland & Barrett last week and I think the time has come to expose it for the badness it is

Have you ever had spots on your lips?? Occasionally the odd blackhead on the edge perhaps, but on the actual fleshy part of your lip? No? Well, I do. And I am certain that this innocent looking item is responsible.

I don’t wear a lot of lipstick, maybe the occasional bit of gloss, and as such, my lips aren’t in bad condition. But as the weather gets chillier and we are constantly moving in and out of air-con/heating /wind outside, a good lip balm is a handy thing to carry around.

First thing first. It cost about £2.99 so not the most expensive out there, but certainly not the cheapest either. It claims to be  moisturising, protecting and rejuvenating and 100% organic, with >20% elagic acid. What I thought was weird instantly was that on the container it was spelled as “elagic” but the first thing I was asked when I googled it was “did you mean ellagic acid?” Deary me. It would appear Dr Organic doesn’t know how to spell.

As a side note, eLLagic acid is meant to have anti-cancerous properties and also reduces blood pressure. I would understand that in a product taken internally but not something you necessarily put on your skin.

I won’t be putting it on my skin again. It smells like plastic, looks like plastic and doesn’t feel very nice. And I am convinced that after a week’s testing this out, it is responsible for my new lip spots. Mmmm. give us a kiss.

If this didn’t put you off enough, think on the words of my colleague, who informed me that it looked like a dog’s penis. I’ve never seen one of those but despite that, I’m not overly inclined to put it anywhere near my mouth now!!

  1. there’s an (british?) company called crazyrumors- they sell natural and vegan lip care and the flavours are gorgeous- all sorts of coffee, tea and even candy flavours

  2. Thanks ladies. I wasn’t necessarily looking for something organic (although every little helps) but it was mroe of a warning to anyone else thinking of purchasing this!

  3. just in the interests of fairness, this is my absolute favourite lipbalm ever after years of using way more expensive ones (and I have ridiculously sensitive skin). I’m really sorry you did, but I’ve never any problems from it.

  4. Thanks for letting us know, Evaline. Clearly it didn’t suit Helen but it’s good to know it does work for you and many others, I’m sure.
