We all know how hard it can be to get up in the morning, especially when you are me and have to deal with 20 minutes of torture on the cross-trainer even before you contemplate the prospect of an hour’s drive followed by 10 hours or so of flogging your soul to the devil (aka working in a sales job).
So you need a little something to get you going when it’s too early for a gin and tonic – and even I would say 6am is too early for spirits. Wine, on the other hand…… Of course I am joking, I’m not a student any more, where 6am was a time you went to bed, not got up. Sadly, things change.
Anyway, I am digressing. For once, this is not a Mum discovery. I came across the very European L’Occitane products in a New York hotel of all places. And then I was hooked. It went straight on my Christmas list and I’ve been stocking up ever since.
The website states…”enriched with organic verbena extract from Corsica, invigorating lemon oil and bracing grapefruit extract from Italy, the Citrus Verbena Shower Gel gently cleanses, leaving the body delicately scented with a fresh and fruity fragrance.” And it’s spot on.
So – shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. Lovely. They have the lightest, brightest lemony scent, perfect for waking you up and making you feel all sunshiney in the morning. Does wonders for refreshing a tired old head. Jez, if you’re reading this, it’s on the shelf under the bathroom sink – I hope you stole some when you stayed!
As far as hair results go, I was really pleased with this. It takes me forever to get a nice lather as we have very hard water but this foams up nicely. The conditioner is also nice and light and when dry, my hair is tangle-free, soft and shiny. Perfect.
L’Occitane also make candles with the same fragrance. I adore them and have to bulk-buy whenever I’m near a store. I know you’re only meant to burn a candle for four hours at a time but I totally ignore this and have it on most of the day or evening whenever I am at home. It makes the house smell lovely and fresh. You can buy either the Verbena candle or the normal lemon one. I’ve had both and Verbena is meant to be more subtle but to be honest I can’t tell the difference. L’Occitane also make a perfume with the same fragrance which I think is lovely but at about £34 a bottle I have restrained so far. Partially because of the price, partially because I cannot be parted from the love of my life, Dior’s Addict, and partially because I can’t help wondering if it would be nore appropriate on a man as aftershave. We’ll see. No doubt I’ll cave in at some point.
These products are not the cheapest but I’ve been using the same 250ml bottles every other day since Christmas and they have only just run out, so you definitely get value for money.
Citrus Verbena Shower Gel is £12.50.
Citrus Verbena Daily Use Shampoo and Citrus Verbena Daily Use Conditioner are £10.75 each.
Citrus Verbena Candles are £15.75 each.
There are tons of other gorgeous-looking products here – I want them ALL. Is it nearly Christmas yet?
