Boots No 17 Smoke Signal

Now here’s an autumnal polish if ever I saw one. I had to wrestle with myself not to Konad bats and castles all over it!

Smoke Signal is another one of these little gems by Boots Number 17. I bought this a couple of years ago but I’m certain it’s still part of the core range. I hope so anyway as it is an absolute cracker. It’s thicker, and easier to apply than Barry M’s aptly named “Grey” and was totally perfect in two coats.

I like this type of colour as although it kind of reminds me of school skirts, it’s moody and murky and is one of those shades that really shouldn’t work as a nail varnish, but for some reason, just does.

I don’t think I’m ever going to fall out of love with grey nail varnish. All shades from the lightest off-white through to the depths and murk of this one. I still can’t get enough. For years my friends teased me that my attire mainly consisted of either black or white clothes (with the occasional splash of hot pink) and so when I introduced grey into my wardrobe, it was like a revolution had happened. Not really. But I do love a bit of grey.

It’s not one that I’d put on my toes though, for fear of looking like I’d dropped an anvil on my feet or something.

  1. I really like this colour. I have a few grey polishes and they tend to lean towards pale blue/grey and don’t look right on my skintone at all. This looks slightly murkier and darker – I like it a lot!
