OPI Texas Swatches (Part Two)

Read Time:3 Minute, 33 Second

Howdy! Today I have a second installment of the OPI Texas collection to show you (you can see Part One here) . I’m pleased about this because I wasn’t expecting to see these until the other side of Christmas. So, let’s take a break from the Burlesques and see what is going to be all over our nails in early 2011.

I Vant To Be A-Lone Star was one of the polishes that immediately caught my eye at the preview I went to last month. Initially I thought it was a grey, along the same lines of Give Me The Moon. Yet actually, this is a really pale, pale icy blue. It probably wouldn’t be out of place in a winter collection as it’s chilly and frosty. I Vant To Be A-Lone Star contains silvery shimmer that gives it more dimension. It is a thick creme, and I did have some issues with the application. The brush (Pro-wide, of course) seemed to  be stiffer than normal, and it kind of streaked through the polish, leaving me with stripes on my nails. I had to wait for each coat to be dry, otherwise I was worried that the brush would have stripped some of the wet polish off. But this is three coats, and it all came out looking wonderful after a layer of Seche Vite. It’s smooth and icy and very delicate looking.

Y’all Come Back Ya Hear is a juicy orange jelly. Orange shades don’t really do it for me I’m afraid. They are usually quite flattering on me, but I prefer to eat oranges rather than wear them on my nails. This is also more sheer than I would like. You’re looking at four coats here. I think perhaps my NL is more V than other people’s (although my nails are always clean), so I’m keen to see how other people get on wuth these juicy neon shades when Texas goes on wider release.

Austin-Tatious Turquoise was a polish that really caught my eye at the preview event. A glistening blue-green, this doesn’t immediately strike me as a turquoise, but hey. Opaque in three coats, this is really pretty and perfect for Spring/Summer. This is a hybrid of really vibrant green/blue and is absolutely jam packed with co-ordinating glass fleck. What I love about this is that it has a discreet pink shimmer to it which sits just on top of the polish and is only visible in certain lights. It’s ever so pretty and a nice surprise when you do catch a glimpse of it. I’ve been asked if this is a dupe for Yodel Me On My Cell from the Swiss collection. I don’t own YMOMC, but Kellie  from Also Known As kindly lent me a picture so you can see for yourselves. I think Austin-Tatious Turquoise is more intricate, greener and less foily.

It’s Totally Fort-Worth It is the polish I was most excited about trying from the Texas collection, so I’m really pleased to have it in my collection now.  What I was expecting to be a grey jelly with pink microshimmer was pretty spot on. But actuallly, the pink softens the grey so that it almost has duochromatic tendencies, showing a lovely dove grey one minute, and then layered over with a very pretty pink the next. It gleams but in a subtle way. I think I’d like it even more if the pink shimmer was more obvious, but what we have to remember here is that it’s November, and the light is appaling. I can’t wait to return to this on a sunny day next year and see how it looks then.

So what do you think? With this post and my three previous swatches, I’ve shown you just over half the collection now – any favourites yet?

The OPI Texas collection will be released in February 2011 (I don’t have an exact date yet), and 15ml bottles will be £9.95 each from Lena White. These were sent to me free of charge for review purposes.

  1. oh my god! That orange is phenomenal! I absolutely must have it. I am so excited for this collection. From your swatches and the bottle shots there isn’t a single one I don’t want. I’m finally buying an entire OPI collection since Summer for Shore

  2. Well…you lucky lady. To get a sneak peak of the Spring Summer collection. Ah, I just finished reading you other two post on this collection. I must say,it is something new for Opi to have some neons in a collection. I’m interested in Don’t Mess With Texas, and Do You Think I’m T-exy, and Huston We Have a Purple. I know not very original of me…lol! I probably have a ton of berry, and purple tone Opi’s. The other colors look pretty, yet I know I probably wouldn’t wear them.

  3. Love the squishy orange! I’m usually not crazy about oranges. This one is really nice. The first one really does look like a pearl grey. The others look like polishes I already have. I’ll have to see these swatched again.
