My almost 3 year-long relationship with Balance Me hangs in the erm, balance with its new Collagen Boost Restore & Replenish Cream Cleanser*.

Two months ago I welcomed this cleanser into my daily routine. It’s a non-water based creamy cleanser designed to remove make-up and the usual barrage of impurities without stripping the skin’s moisture plus it claims to treat and prevent signs of ageing.

Recommended for use on normal/combination skin, the carefully plucked ingredients of grapefruit and petit grain, frankincense essential oils and spruce knot extract help to calm congestion and prevent breakouts. Also added are anti-oxidant rich moringa and rice bran oils to help brighten and illuminate dull skin with every wash.

To use you squeeze a bit into clean palms and add warm water to activate it before massaging it all over the face. Either wash it off or remove the excess with a damp flannel and pat dry.

Unfortunately within days of using the cleanser, I had a break-out, usually around the cheeks and jaw line. To isolate the problem, I stopped using it for a few weeks and my skin returned to normal but when I returned to it, the spots sprung up again.

I’m going to put the disagreement down to the essential oils. I had a similar problem with Emma Hardie’s cleanser, which I passed onto my mum whose dry skin lapped it up. It’s just odd my normal (and dehydrated) skin does not like this combination from Balance Me. Looks like I’ll be giving this one to mama Shaikh too.

Balance Me Collagen Boost Restore & Replenish Cream Cleanser (125ml) is available online at www.balanceme.co.uk and at Debenhams, priced at £18.
