Harrods’ Urban Retreat has the facial to get you preened and polished. Whether it’s for a special occasion or you just want to look your finest for the Christmas festive party season, the MarocMaroc Radiance Facial is an experience in itself that I’m still basking in the glory of since I had one last week.
If you’ve never visited Urban Retreat, I implore you to. It is a utopia tucked in a corner of the fifth floor. The MarocMaroc spa looks unassuming from the outside but step inside and you walk into a blissful oasis of tranquility.
A large Moroccan brass lantern hanging from the ceiling dominates the entrance with lockers on either side and changing rooms engulfed by thick curtains. And it’s so peaceful and quiet, having an immediate calming effect when you’ve battled the outside chaos of shoppers on Knightsbridge.
Once I had got changed out of my clothes and slipped into a thick bathrobe, I was invited to take a seat in the decadent relaxation area before my therapist escorted me to the treatment room.
My facial began with a thorough cleanse followed by a scrub and finally a facial, shoulder and chest massage. All of this took place without the requirement of turning over – I must applaud my therapist for undoing the knots in my shoulder while I was lying on my back.
In between my facial I was spritzed with water infused with roses to keep my skin soft and hydrated and fittingly, the scent of Argan oil from the products used filled the room. It felt as if I had been transported back to Marrakech.
The MarocMaroc facial lasts 50 minutes, which honestly felt like 15. I was in a state of happiness with the pain and stress of my day earlier drained out of me and I had a new face too. My pampered skin looked better than I had imagined – smooth, supple and glowing.
The Radiance Facial cleanses and revives the face with extreme gentleness while your senses go on a journey of utter relaxation. For skin that is lacking in moisture and vitality particularly during the cold winter season, this facial provides an intensely hydrating treatment. With such key ingredients as Argan oil and honey which are renowned for their special healing properties, the skin’s appearance is instantly changed, leaving it feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. This facial costs £90 for 50 minutes and is available all year round.
The brand MarocMaroc is still relatively new to our shores. It is a refined and opulent skin care range born in its homeland of Morocco and inspired by the richness of the humble Argan tree, the majesty of the rose and sprinkled with almond flowers.
Free of silicone and mineral oil, its products are quite simply sumptuous, which is why it is no surprise to learn it has joined forces with Urban Retreat to bring a piece of Morocco to the heart of London with this heavenly spa that opened last October. It also has two spas in Marrakech and one in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The spa also has a fully equipped Moroccan hammam for females only, which I am keeling over to try. Centuries old, the hammam is my absolute favourite body treatment as it is a complete cleansing ritual of steaming, scrubbing and massaging of the skin until it glows.
MarocMaroc’s spa is women only with prices starting from £125 for a 90 minute traditional hammam. I’ve been fortunate to experience a number of spas and hammams both here and abroad. MarocMaroc’s spa at Urban Retreat is not only magnificent and majestic but secluded with your privacy respected. I could truly take my time without being disturbed. In fact I felt like I had the entire place to myself, which just added to the ambience.
