On 15th August, I blogged about the trouble with online beauty retailer www.sospecial.co.uk, who posted an apologetic response on these pages.

On 20th August I received the following email:

I do apologise the item should have gone out last week, I sent a request to the warehouse after my last email to you.  I have just checked though and it was not sent.

I really am sincerely sorry about this, I have requested that they now get the item sent out and so it should be with you within the next few days

Please confirm once it has been received

Kind Regards

Shockingly, my order still hasn’t been delivered almost two months after it was placed and paid for.  On 1st September I sent a final email requesting a total refund.  I haven’t had a response yet.  Next stop is to report this matter to these guys.

  1. Sospecial.co.uk is a scam website, I don’t believe they have stock of anything. They take your money immediately and then spend months giving everyone the run around pretending they have sold out, then get stock back, what do you want to do, etc.

The replies are just templates they send to everyone with the product name changed. Check out http://www.trustpilot.co.uk/review/www.sospecial.co.uk

I’ve reported them to Consumer Direct and my credit card company, hopefully they will stop processing payments from them.

The company is not registered at Companies House. The telephone number on their website is invalid, but I have a couple of others to try, and publish once verified.

They seem to respond faster to tweets than email, perhaps more publicity is required?

  2. Hello, thank you so much for your posting. I came across the link last week and am stunned in all honesty. A week ago they sent me an email, promising me the items had been dispatched and of course I’ve not received anything. They failed to confirm a refund had been processed on an item I had cancelled so effectively they still have over £40 from me.

I have been advised by Consumer Direct to issue a final notice in writing and send by recorded delivery. I doubt that will bring anything of it so I will have to contact my credit card company and hope they can retrieve every penny from this scamming website.

  3. The latest email I got from them was on Friday, 24th September from a Jody Palmer:

Thank you for your email. I completely understand your frustration with this situation with your order. I can confirm though that the new Eyesential stock is in and your order has been packed and so it can go out immediately if you would like it?

If not then I can of course just cancel and refund the order immediately

I am again very sorry for this situation

    Kind Regards

  4. It’s like hitting your head against a brick wall – what do they honestly think I’ve been trying to ask for these past few months? I demand a refund immediately. How did you push them? Did you take it further to Consumer Direct?

  5. As advised, I tried Twitter and received this response on 28th September at 16:36:

    Dear Afsheen

Thank you for your email. I shall of course as requested cancel and refund your order. Please allow between 7 and 14 days for this to show on your statement

Apologies again that we were unable to fulfil your order quickly enough

    Kind Regards

————————————————Another 7 to 14 days?! That’s ridiculous! Did it take this long for you too?

  6. Oh no!!! Just as I feared it’s not just me that’s been scammed by them! I waited over a month for my item to come, I then gave up waiting and demanded a refund, which over one month on I’m still waiting for! I’ve sent countless emails it ridiculous! I don’t intend to let them away with it either! Complete fraud!

  7. Order no6873472.

I too ordered a product for my gf for xmas in november, sent loads of e.mails asking for refund, and left messages on answerphone with no reply am now contacting watchdog!

  8. Roger Dean, send them a written letter and post it by recorded delivery, and say you will be contacting Consumer Direct if you don’t hear from them within 2 weeks. Also drop WatchDog a line too. I did a while ago so who knows, they may be looking into and the more who write in, the bigger the story will be.

  9. i too have fallen for sospecial scam, receiving identical emails apologising, apparently its so they can gain interest when holding on to all the money before returning or keeping!

everyone should report them i will contact watchdog too.

  10. This company is a joke, placed order with these guys for face cream middle of january, waited two weeks, still no delivery of my order. This company did not have the decency to inform me that the product was out of stock, all it takes is a simple e-mail. I know a lot of people out there have had the same problem. I cancelled the order end of January and have still not received a refund, I have sent a couple of emails, but have not heard nothing,so it looks like i am going to take this matter further

  11. I think sospecial should be renamed sos**t and that way at least people would be prepared for the sort of service they can expect. I am yet another customer scammed by these con artists!! Same scenario different bank account. Very pi**ed off that people like that are still allowed to have a website up!

  12. If only I had looked at this scam site before trying to purchase a cosmetic product from SoSpecial. On February 25th 2011 I paid for the item, but like everyone else, have received many emails apologising for the delay-but now, four months later, still no product or refund! At first I threatened to contact my banks disputes dept, then trading standards and then, finally, the police. But once again I have received a very apologetic letter reassuring me that my money will be refunded within the next fourteen days. Twenty one days have now passed! How can we stop this company from advertising? Perhaps we should contact Watchdog or even Crimewatch! What do you think?

  13. Maxine, I have submitted something to Watchdog a couple of times but not heard anything back. Perhaps they are investigating the matter. I would contact them in case they don’t realise how serious this is – the more people who come forward, the more likely they will be to report the matter.

Louise (and everyone else who has been charged but not received anything), keep at them. Contact Consumer Direct which will add weight and you should get your money back like I did.
