I know I mainly go on (and on, and on) about nail varnish, but I’m taking a little time out today to tell you about one of my other obsessions. Hair products. Especially smoothing products, and leave-in conditioner.

For the past seven years (it could be more!) I have relied on one staple prodict, which is Tigi’s Bedhead After Party Smoothing Creme. I love it. It smells amazing, and calms down my rebellious hair. I usually just run it through my wet hair and allow it to dry naturally, and somehow it just gives me perfect curls. I also rub it in to the ends of my hair before I straighten it. After Party doesn’t claim to be a heat protector, but it does leave me with soft, shiny and silky hair. Working on the basis that I use one tube of this every six months, that’s at least 14 repurchases over the years.

So although I will always remain totally loyal to this wonder product, when Tigi asked me if I wanted to try some new items that they were launching this winter, I jumped at the chance. I’m such a fan – I’ve used gallons of the honey and oatmeal shampoo over the years, and am also addicted to their shine spray. Not to mention the fact that my husband loves their range designed for men. So – new products? Yes please!

First up is Rockaholic Dirty Secret Conditioner.  This is a new product that is paired with Tigi’s dry shampoo from the same range. We all know about the wonders of dry shampoo (indeed, one of my friends even did a trial a while ago – check it out here) but  I believe that dry conditioner is a first.

Anthony Mascolo, Tigi’s International Creative Director says: “Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo is fantastic. It can be used to refresh your style and is great to boost volume at the roots. Now you can give your hair a smooth, shiny finish and give your restyle the professional edge with the Dirty Secret Dry Conditioner. Concentrate the dry shampoo at the roots to absorb oil and add volume. Then direct the dry conditioner at the mid-lengths and ends in a downwards direction to add softness and shine”.

Firstly, the can is huuuge. And I adore the design of the packaging. As a rock chick at heart, there’s no way that I could walk past this on a shelf without wanting to see what its all about. It was kind of strange using this alone, without the dry shampoo. But I really like to wash my hair every day regardless (I dont feel clean if I don’t), so I’m not the ideal target market for dry shampoo.

What I found though is that used on dry hair, this really perked up my “do”. It is weightless and non-sticky, and smells of lemon Refresher sherbet sweets. It doesn’t detangle particularly, but I found that it was good to refresh and boost my hair’s shine and smoothness – absolutely ideal after a day of running around in the rain and the wind, and perfect if you’re looking for a quick fix before going out at night, or if you just want to tame your curls and look marginally less like the Wild Woman of West Berkshire.

The other product I was sent to try was Tigi’s Rockaholic Rock My World Stellar Smoothing Cream (what a mouthful!). Again, I love, love, love the packaging of this. As I removed it from the parcel, I could see the husband eyeing the funky black bottle and being a bit sad that it wasn’t destined for his hair.

This is a “blackberry amber” scented smoothing cream that is designed for use on wet or dry hair to smooth and add shine. Let me just say, I don’t know what blackberry amber is, but I want more of it! This smells absolutely divine. Scent is something that Tigi have absolutely nailed. I own about 15 of their various products and there is not one that I dislike the smell of.

Applied to wet hair, this product offers light hold. I agree with that, but it’s not something I feel like I need. My hair has recently returned to its naturally curly state from years of chemical straightening, so I am ok with it moving around. But where this really worked for me was when I applied it and then blow dried my hair straight. Again, I had sleek, shiny and gorgeously scented locks.

Rockaholic Dirty Secret Dry Conditioner costs £10.50. Rock My World Stellar Smoothing Cream costs £8.95. Tigi Rockaholic products are available exclusively in professional salons. For your nearest stockist, visit www.tigihaircare.com or call 0844 844 0944.

I’d like to thank Tigi for sending me these products to test out. My hair also thanks you!

Helen

  1. Ooh I really like the sound of a dry conditioner. As someone with very long, naturally curly and therefore dry, coloured hair, I don’t like to wash my hair every day but do feel like the ends need a more regular condition. I’ll definitely be checking that one out. Thanks Helen!

  2. I have yet to try a dry shampoo and am aiming to do that some day. I don’t wash my hair every day in an effort to protect it and sometimes go to the 3rd day before washing it (I only wear it down on the day I wash/dry it and the rest I wear it up in a ponytail or clip). This product sounds interesting but I’m wondering if a dry conditioner would be too much for girls with fine hair like me? I have wave and a fairly full head of hair but very fine texture. Any thoughts?
