Strictly Fab-u-lous Nail Collection

It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Strictly. I’ve really enjoyed this series (well done Harry and Aliona) and am very much looking forward to the Christmas special. So, the combination of two of my loves, Strictly, AND nail polish was just too much to bear. I missed out on this collaboration when it debuted in Boots last year, so when I recently I clocked it reappearing on the Boots gift set shelf in 2011’s range, I decided to bag it for myself.

The polishes are small – 12 x 3ml bottles, and categorised into three sections – Ballroom, Latin, and Salsa, with each of them named after a dance move or Strictly phrase. Surprisingly, for such small bottles, the brushes are excellent quality and I had zero issues with application here. Some colours are better than others, but at £16.00 for the set, it’s not a bad deal at all.

Let’s take a closer look, shall we? First up, the four Salsa themed shades.

Wow Factor is a really hot orange creme. Opaque in three coats, the formula was absolutely lovely. I can’t wait to wear this on summer toes.

Lambada is a pink creme. More sheer than I would like considering you only get 3ml in a bottle. Not overly exciting.

Glitter Ball was opaque in one coat and is a fabulous pink foil shot through with silver. Gorgeous.

Fandango is definitely meant for layering, as you can see below, it would take forever to build alone. It’s a sheerer version of OPI Catch Me In  Your Net or Zoya Charla, with a good hit of pink duochrome.

But look how amazing it looks over black  – love it!

Now onto the “Ballroom” shades:

Bachata is a sheer, squishy pink jelly. Four coats on the first two fingers, and three coats on the other two here – it would take some time to build to opacity or would be a good lick of a nicely toned sheer pink to quickly tidy up and gloss your nails.

Sparkle is another layering polish. A pink and gold duochrome, it reminds me of Nars Orgasm. Really pretty and delicate  -seen here over Bachata.

Dosado (which I always thought was something from line dancing, rather than ballroom, but what do I know?) is a gorgeous lilac with a hint of greenish grey duochrome. Quite sheer and streaky, it would eventually build to opacity but the bottle is so small that I ended up layering it over black here, just to avoid wastage.

Shimmy is a stunning champagne coloured foil. Opaque in two coats, this is really pretty and festive. No complaints at all!

And finally, the “Latin” themed polish…

Midnight is a bit pesky. In the bottle, a deep navy blue with purple shimmer. On the nail? Just flat. A shame, as this looked like it had a lot of promise. Maybe in sunlight?

Polka is a black creme. Pigmented and smooth, it is pretty straightforward and a handy addition as it makes a nice base for the layering shades.

Seductress is probably my favourite of the collection. A shimmery, sparkly crimson shimmer, this is really pigmented and looks a lot more expensive than it is. I’d love a full sized version!

Unrequited is a nice, slightly alternative choice here. It is a fab antique blackened gold foily shimmer, lighter than China Glaze Wagon Trail, but definitely from the same family. Manages not to look olive, which I like. Really flashy and interesting – I have a party dress that is the exact same colour.

So,what do you think? I really like this little collection which offers good quality and I think there’s something here for everyone. It’s the last shopping day before Christmas, so what are you waiting for?

Helen

  1. You know, as I started to read ‘antiqued blackened gold’, I thought to myself, ‘Oooh, like Helen’s dress!’ 😉
Merry Christmas Helen – hope you’re having a fab time.
