Whenever I get the chance to visit a branch of Sephora, I promise myself I will only buy what I cannot get here. In Europe I target Sephora’s own range which is pretty decent in its own right and enormous. In Barcelona I spied their Smart Liner which stands out for its unusual but ergonomic handle. Always on the search for a fool-proof way to apply eyeliner, I was curious by the shape and design of the ergonomic handle.

Coming in at around £8 it wasn’t going to leave a dent in my pocket and I excitedly unwrapped it on the day I had bought it. The curved handle looks terrifying but it’s quick and easy to grip. It’s also an extremely light-weight product.

Pull off the lid and you’re met with a long and sharp applicator. It’s a felt-tip eyeliner with a firm applicator. Combined with the handle, this eyeliner gives good control for drawing a line thinly. Use the firm tip to reach into the inner corners and the side of the applicator to smoothly apply the liner across the edge of the lid. What’s more, the shape of the handle acts as a guide to create the winged effect.

It’s good to use on the go and I found gripping it really easy and applying to my right eye (I’m right-handed by the way) was a breeze. Tackling the left eye took some adjusting, but the Smart Liner is definitely easier to control and grip than other liners. I would like to see this as a liquid liner rather than a felt-tip one as I crave a more pigmented liner and while the felt-tip version can be layered on for more intensity, it’s not exactly convenient at times and there have been moments where I have gone over a line only to make it wonky. As an every-day liner, this perfect for a neat, subtle look but will disappoint if you like to wear your liner thickly namely because it’s tiresome to layer and also I do think it will run dry quickly.

Sephora’s Smart Liner costs $14 (£8) or 12 euros (under £9 depending on the exchange rate!).
