It would seem I have a number of shampoos and conditioners in rotation at the moment. The one I am talking about today is Pureology’s Smooth Perfection Shampoo and Conditioner. I bought this a few months ago as I was looking for a new sulphate-free one that was more affordable than the high end ones I’ve previously used (like Alterna). Smooth Perfection set me back by £12 for the shampoo and £15 for the conditioner so roughly half the price of Alterna although I tend to only buy when there is an offer on.
In the past I have given Pureology’s Hydrate shampoo a go, which was recommended by my hairdresser when I had extensions briefly. I remember my hair couldn’t handle the shampoo and as a result felt lifeless and limp so I didn’t repurchase it.
With that in mind, I thought I’d try a different kind from Pureology and settled for Smooth Perfection based on its description of being suitable for frizz-prone and colour treated tresses.
The shampoo has been formulated with exclusive ThermalAntiFadeComplex® to prevent colour fading and also provides UVA and UVB protection. Having said that, I thought the general idea with sulphate-free is it doesn’t prematurely strip the hair of colour. Any way, I am learning more on it or certainly paying closer attention.
The shampoo also contains a concoction of camellia oil, sesame oil and shea butter which might explain why my hair feels uncomfortably sleek greasy after a wash. That’s right, my hair does not like Smooth Perfection. Actually the first couple of times I used it, my hair felt really nice and I thought I’d found the one with Pureology but the last five or six uses has led to the unfortunate conclusion that it just doesn’t work for me. I’ve tried using a tiny amount and only conditioning the ends but to no avail. I think this duo is better suited to thick, dry hair which would be able to handle the rich formula.
