My favourite type of cleanser is a cleansing balm. There is something deeply satisfying about it melting into your skin and breaking down the particles of make-up and dirt. It always feels like I’m giving myself a mini luxe facial and to be honest, I don’t feel properly clean without using one in my daily night time routine.
I have two key favourite cleansing balms (Elemis’ Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm and Temple Spa’s In The Beginning Deep Cleansing Melt) and I believe I’ve found a third to join the holy trilogy: Pestle & Mortar’s Erase cleansing balm. I’ve caught snippets of skin brand Pestle & Mortar but not explored it mainly because I fear I will want everything from them (and it’s not cheap) but I spotted Erase during a recent browse online and with the discount code the retailer was offering, bagged a tub.
Pestle & Mortar’s Erase cleansing balm is beautifully packaged in a black box and comes in a chunky matte finish black tub which makes it kind of sexy. The balm is infused with pumpkin enzymes to diminish all traces of make-up whilst cold-pressed meadowfoam, prickly pear seed and grape seed oils nourish and protect the skin against free radical damage. Packed with vitamins, antioxidants and omega fatty acids, the balm is nothing short of a pampering treat. It’s not tested on animals and is free from parabens, silicones, sulphates, mineral oil and synthetic fragrance.
As part of step one of the double cleanse routine, you scoop a small amount into your hands and rub together before massaging gently onto dry skin and then wiping it clean with a warm, damp face cloth. It melts instantly and there is a subtle exfoliant element to the balm to gently polish the skin. Honestly it feels divine to use and I look forward to using it every night.
Compared to Elemis, Pestle & Mortar costs less at £34 for 100ml (Elemis is £41 for 105g). It still sits on the high end scale but it depends on how much you prioritise skincare. In my case, the older I am getting, the more attention I have to pay but I have no regrets in investing in quality products which deliver. If you’re intrigued to give this a try, you can get it from Look Fantastic with free delivery. Unfortunately at the time of writing this post, it’s sold out but I’m sure it will be back in stock very soon.
