OPI Ti-Tan Your Toga

As the wedding draws ever closer, I find myself peering into my stash wondering what the hell I am going to wear on my nails for the big day. Stressful. I know I don’t want any form of French manicure, diamantes or decals. But that’s about as far as I’ve got. I’m toying with the idea of some Konad over a nude base though.

So I thought I’d road test this polish as a contender. Before I go any further, let me tell you that I’ve already made up my kind that it isn’t in the running, so don’t worry.

I had a bit of a lemming for this after seeing it on The Hungry Asian last summer. I know Kae’s nails can make anything look good, but still, I liked the look of this. Sadly, it really doesn’t do it for my skintone. It is a very strange beigey yellow shade on me in daylight, and a creamy grey indoors. Most odd. It’s not unpleasant or anything, but it does kind of give my nails a form of mortuary chic that I really don’t think is appropriate for a wedding!

I think this is a discontinued polish from OPI’s Greek Isles collection. I bought mine on eBay. It is an old OPI formula, as I could tell that the label on the bottom is different, plus it was a lot thinner than the OPI Big-3-free formula. I did a layer of ridge filler, but I still needed 3-4 coats of this before it hit the level of opaque that I like.

It has a little bit of shimmer to it, and the finish is beautiful. However, it was slow to dry, even with Seche Vite.  I applied it over an hour before bed and still woke up with sheet marks this morning. Hmmm.

So, what do you think? I don’t know what to make of this one. I think it would be marvellous on dark skin. Just not quite right for me. Oh well, at least it’s one off the list of wedding potentials!

  1. I’m sure you’d guessed I wouldn’t be a fan of this! I still think that you should wear something with a bit more colour to it on the big day, when I think of your nails I don’t think ‘nude’. But obviously you should just wear whatever you feel comortable in!

  2. I have no words. You do wonder who thought it was a good idea to release this shade! Discontinued? I should say so….

Moving on. For the wedding (assuming it’s summer and fairly traditional) then I see no other way than pink. Maybe with a fine filigree Konad in silver? Slightly lacy effect? Or a ruffian with pink and silver? Pink and grey?

  3. Hmmm, it’s not the best colour on you, there seems to be a hint of green that just makes it a bit yucky, mortuary chic indeed! As for weddings – I know nothing – so would say go with what you like, even if that’s not a traditional ‘bride’ colour.

  4. I don’t particularly care for it, but it’s due to me just not being a fan of a lot of nude colors period. I would however wear it though if that makes sense. It would be a good accent color for like nail art designs such as the cheetah design.

  5. Huh. I think you’re right, Kae just looks good in all kinds of colors, I’ve often felt that way! I think this is one I’d pass on.
Man, I can’t even imagine choosing an appropriate color for your wedding! Maybe something that will complement the colors you’re using for the theme?

  6. I hate to say this but it’s hideous on you. I don’t care for this shade at all. Hope your find something nice for your wedding. Something more in a warmer shade.

  7. Andrea – I did. I’m starting to get to know the views of my readers rather well!

Jen – I’m thinking a nude base with a gold holo Konad. Today anyway – it may change by tomorrow!

Cali – Hi! Yes – it does have a weird green tinge, doesn’t it? Strange.

PolishedPrude – Hi and thanks for commenting!

Nicole – Yes – Kae’s nails are the equivalent of a supermodel – looks good in anything!

SalvgedExpression – Thanks – good to see someone out there likes it!

Lucy – Yes – I am definitely going for something warmer. I’m still drawn towards China Glaze’s FYI…
