OPI The Grape Lakes

Read Time:1 Minute, 38 Second

The other day I was rooting around in my box(es) of untried polish, looking for a nail varnish that was wintery but work appropriate enough to wear to a meeting.

The Grape Lakes comes from an OPI mini set called “Blues Babies” from the OPI Chicago collection of summer 2005. It’s a classic collection but sadly, many of the shades are now discontinued, so when I spied the mini set that was released at the same time, I knew I had to have it.

Application of this was terrible though. OPI mini polishes are notoriously tricksy to get to grips with, and this was no exception. Also, the fact that it is over five years old probably didnt help matters. It’s a thick creme polish and I experienced some serious dragging here. In fact, I was worried that I was going to use up the entire mini bottle on this manicure alone.

It was worth the headache though as this is a totally gorgeous colour that I wasn’t able to take my eyes off. It is a dusky cool mauve shade that is shot through with silver shimmer, giving it a stunning sheen on top that makes it look very luxurious. It’s exactly the same type of finish that my beloved Zoya Pasha has, and I love it just as much on a purple base as I do on the brown. And for those wondering how similar it is to Catherine The Grape from the Russian Collection, it isn’t. This is a lot lighter and cooler, and leans to silver rather than brown.

I’ve been hunting high and low for a full sized version of this polish, so if anyone has one they no longer want, or see it online anywhere, please let me know. OPI made some of the polishes from the Chicago collection permanent fixtures (Got The Blues For Red, and the Lincoln Park duo), but sadly, not this one. It’s a shame really.

  1. I can see exactly where this would fit in with *wintery but appropriate enough for a meeting* as this really sums that up. There are some on ebay US sellers admittedly but I have never had a problem purchasing something small like nail varnish from US sellers. Good luck it is a super colour. Jan x

  2. Lovely colour! I love colours that are like nothing else in my collecion, and this is definiely one!

I hate applying the mini’s too – ridiculously small brushes = ridiculously low patience level.

    My little blog…

  3. Love that polish. I don’t own this one. I hate OPI minis. They’re so hard to use. I hope you find a large size bottle. Looks fantastic on you.
