Nubar Spark

Spark is another of the Nubar Prisms collection that I was sent to try out. You may recall from my review of Gem that I was concerned that these polishes weren’t true holos, more jelly varnishes with holo glitter.

Well, Spark is slightly different, in that it has more of that overall spectacular holo effect. It’s still rather subtle and has none of the bling and splendour of holographic polishes by OPI and China Glaze, but it is still extremely pretty indeed.

Spark flowed on beautifully, and was two coats over a base coat of OPI Nail Envy and a layer of OPI Ridge Filler. Like most holo-esque polishes, it dried really fast and I have no complaints about the application at all.

This kind of reminds me of China Glaze’s FYI, which ranks as one of my favourite polishes of all tine, and is currently leading the race to become my wedding day manicure. FYI is more obviously holographic though.

I really enjoyed wearing Spark. It has enough special effects to keep me interested during the course of a not-very-interesting day in the office, and yet I firmly believe that it is subtle enough to wear to work.

Also, a joyous thing was that this polish was totally smooth and came off in a couple of quick swipes with remover. It’s nice to get a pretty effect like this without being doomed to the time consuming irritation that is glitter removal.

So what do you think? Do you like the subtle appearance of this one? Or do you prefer the brighter and more in your face shades?

Gem was kindly sent to me for review by the nice people at Beauty Shed, where Nubar polishes retail for £8.00 each.
