Guest review: GOSH Flamingo - Just Nice Things

Guest review: GOSH Flamingo

Read Time:3 Minute, 17 Second

I’m sure regular readers of Nice Things will be familiar with loyal reader Britny. Recently, fed up of the state of the GOSH stand in Superdrug (a problem that is not unique to my local store, apparently), Britny decided to approach GOSH head office in Denmark to alert them to the plight of their poor products in the UK. Bravo, Britny! GOSH were pleased to be made aware of this, and as a result sent Britny a couple of polishes to try out. Here’s her review of GOSH Flamingo…

Anyone who knows me will be more than aware that under no circumstances am I a girly pink kind of girl at all. Pink is a colour I would ignore on a make up stand (in fact I would usually run past it screaming). However recently I wrote to the lovely GOSH people to complain about the abuse of their products in Superdrug and to beg them to get some other distributors. I received a nice reply from them and they said they would send me a little something. I received my parcel today and enclosed were two polishes Flamingo and Black Passion.

I decided to try Flamingo first being as it is so far removed from my comfort zone. Application as with most of the GOSH polishes I have tried was great, colour was reasonably opaque in one coat (in fact if you were in a rush you could probably get away with one reasonably thick coat). My only wish is that GOSH would provide a brush with a more traditional grip size as I have tiny hands and find the wide brush handle a little cumbersome. I would have left my application at 2 coats had my puppy not decided to come and bite my nose and cause me to smudge a bit, therefore I went for 3 coats to cover the smudges. Drying time was a little longer than some of the other GOSH polishes (I haven’t got the hang of applying Seche Vite when wet yet I still find it easier to let it dry a bit first) and it actually has a nice shine even before adding a topcoat.

I surprised myself by liking the colour, it is a pretty, tasteful bright pink. I am finding it difficult to describe the colour given that I know nothing at all about pink! It is not a Barbie shocking pink, cerise is the closest I can think of but I see maybe a bit of a purple tinge in there which is perhaps why it actually appeals to me.

I can definitely see this as a colour I would wear a lot on my toes in the summer time and I am actually toying with using it on my fingernails for my Crufts manicure. I usually wear tasteful purple shades but I am planning a grey suit for the show and with a black and white dog I thought the nice bright pink would be a good contrast from the dark colours.

It was fabulous to have a GOSH polish that was not wrapped in sellotape or hadn’t gone gloopy from the kids standing in Superdrug covertly applying it for a night out hanging round the local chip shop! I am also glad of the opportunity to try a colour that is very different for me and something that I would have bypassed on the shelf. I even got a compliment from an assistant in a Boots store when shopping.

GOSH told me they would pass on my complaints about the way the product is displayed in Superdrug (and the fact that they seem to have reduced the range). I promised to let them know if things improve or not so if any of you buy any GOSH polishes from Superdrug in the near future please let me know if the products appear in better condition or remain in the same sorry state.

I shall monitor the GOSH display and report! It’s always a tip yet it sells the higher-end polishes available from Superdrug. Makes no sense.
The pink is just not me but I do think it would be brilliant for Woofts with a grey suit. What breed is the dog?
    Dogs AND nail polish. Wunderbar!

My God madam I can’t believe you are sporting pink however, its a rather hot candy pink and would great on sandal sporting toes!

I knew being a “gobby mare” would reap its rewards one day 😉

Good idea to let a manufacturer about their product. They’re in business to make money and they’re probably losing money by having lousy displays. Nice of them to send some polish. I hope things really improve with Gosh. Love the flamingo pink. Nice and bright. This would look fabulous with a black dog. Instead of wearing black polish I think this would be a nice contrast. Maybe this lovely color will bring you luck.
