Sky Sparkles is another of the Sparkles polishes that I was sent to try out. In the bottle, Sky Sparkles has a serious amount of promise. It is a really vibrant and eyecatching mid-blue.
However, I had major difficulties with the application of this polish. Unlike Petunia Sparkles, which behaved as though it was wearing its Sunday best, Sky Sparkles was a definite problem child.
When dipping the brush into the bottle, it didn’t pick up any polish in the centre of the brush, meaning that I constantly painted two stripes down either side, as opposed to getting full coverage.
It worked better when I used the brush differently, and kind of stippled uit on, rather than trying to use smooth brushstrokes. Phew. Almost there.
But then something weird happened. Even before I’d got to use a topcoat, I saw that Sky Sparkles was creeping away from the edges of my nails.
Sometimes you get this effect after a day or two post quick-drying topcoat, but not usually just after application. It was like the polish didnt want to stick to my nails at all, and was retreating to the centre. Very strange. Reminded me of when you used to play with magnets and iron filings as a child in school,
What you see here is three coats, plus me returning a couple of times to repaint the tips. I gave up in the end. Bald patches just kept appearing from nowhere. Now I know how men with receding hairlines must feel.
I think this would probably work very well over a co-ordinating blue, and I would recommend it for that purpose but if you want to build it up from nothing on your nails, you might be in for a hard time.
It is a shame, as Sky Sparkles is a beautiful polish. A single toned bright bright blue, that is soooo sparkly. One of my (male) colleagues commented this morning on how “cool” it was. And from a distance, it is. Sadly, I like my nail varnish to look perfect from the closest view, so for now, this one is relegated
to the topcoat box as I seek a co-ordinating blue base to try it with.
Sky Sparkles was kindly sent to me for review by Beauty Shed, where Nubar polishes retail at £8.00 each.
Helen
This wasn’t the blue I was talking about, I wanted the darker one, hopefully that one is better. What a shame the application was so bad with this, I wonder if it was just yours or if everyone has this issue.
What a shame, its a nice shade but you know me and glitters…the first thing I noticed was the patchiness of the colour at the nail tips and thats so not good!
As you say, over a similar shade gloss it would look quite good, its kinda winter wonderlandy for spring though!
It looks like a really bad version of absolutely alice. Your right though it might look good over a block colour, I bet it would look amazing over black.

Andrea -I dont have the dark blue but I know that Glittermillie did and she loved it. I think everyone had the same issue with this one – it is just thinner than the others.
Liz – yes you are right – I may well be saving this one for Christmas to put over a white – I think that might look great for that time of year.
Kitty – yes, you are right. I might well try it over black soon. I definitely prefer AA.
