Nubar Gem

For those of you who don’t follow a lot of beauty blogs, or may have been living in the dark for the past few weeks, Nubar have recently released a range of new nail varnishes, called the Prisms Collection.

Having spent the last few weeks looking at promo shots, or reviews by my fellow US bloggers, I knew Gem was the one I immediately wanted to try out. What can I say? It called to me!

Now, let’s get one thing straight. Those of you expecting holographic effect nail varnish along the lines of OPI Designer Series, or China Glaze OMG Collection, may be disappointed here. This certainly isn’t a holo effect polish. Instead, what you have is a coloured jelly, containing hundreds of particles of priasmatic glitter.

The base colour of Gem is a lovely hybrid of lavender and taupe, depending on where the light shines on it. The photos have picked up the brown tones, but there is a lot of pink in it as well. It is utterly gorgeous.

I know I was hoping for a holographic polish but in all fairness, this is still stunning. The glitter particles are so sparkly and shiny, and are totally smooth once layered over with one coat of Nubar’s Diamont fast-drying topcoat.

The only reservation I have about Gem is that it was quite sheer. This was four coats in the end, but I have had it on for four days now and I am only just getting a bit of tipwear-  no chips as you need to layer it on in thin coats and  build it up – I always find the thicker polishes chip faster.

So what do you think? Will you be trying any of the Nubar Prisms? I have a few more to bring you from the collection, so do stay tuned!

Gem was kindly sent to me for review by the nice people at Beauty Shed, where Nubar polishes retail for £8.00 each.

  1. Very pretty! I thought they would be holos, but I’m not a fan of holos anyway. This is nicer than I expected.

I went to look at Chanel Particuliere yesterday and have decided I don’t want it. I saw Butter London Fash Pack and I think I will go for that over OPI OTT etc. Oh, and I somehow managed to pick up Dior Silver Purple, how did that happen?! It is lovely, but it was £15!

  2. This is a really a pretty polish. So far I’ve resisted buying any Nubar polishes. I’m getting a little tired of buying so many polishes that are so close in color and finish. I have a huge collection and I’ll never get to wear them more than once each! I think I’m bored with polish right now. I’m too busy playing games on Facebook. Sorry I’ve been kind of absent. I may change my mind next week when I go crazy for another polish~

  3. The Dior is lovely – I haven’t bought it but I’ve seen it a few times here and there on blogs.

I don’t have a single Butter London – how did they pass me by? I mean, I know the brand but I’ve never had a real lemming for any of their stuff.

  4. Hi Lucy – No worries. I know what you mean about having a huge collection. Just please don’t give them away again – you’ll regret it!
