How gorgeous is this promo picture? It just sings Winter make-up to me!
I’ve never tried any products by MyFace Cosmetics before so I was pleased to be given the chance to test out some nail varnishes from their new range, Lil’ Bling. Each nail varnish in the range is designed to be paired with a co-ordinating metallic eye shadow. Whilst I don’t always like to match my nails to my make-up, there’s no denying that the colours here are certainly striking.
Sp”ice”y was the polish that immediately caught my eye. You all know I have a thing for brown and bronzey shades and so I was itching to get this on my nails.
Being something of a practised expert in the application of nail varnish (everyone’s got to have a talent, right?) I had a feeling that these were potentially going to be tricky.
What I love about these varnishes is the fact that the lacquer is
really opaque and pigmented. Marvellous. However, they have to go on a 100% smooth nail, as we all know that metallic shades show up every lump, bump and dent.
I first tried this over a base coat of OPI Ridge Filler but found that the Lil’ Bling didn’t like that one bit, and started to eat away at the base, leaving me with great big lumps of congealed ridge filler under the polish. So I took it off and started again, this time applying it over OPI Nail Envy, having first buffed and smoothed my nails thoroughly.
It worked better this time, although I ended up doing three coats just to even it out and cover over some air bubbles. I was concerned about brush strokes but believe it or not, they totally vanished upon drying. Amazing. From a distance, this looks like a single piece of chrome stretched over my nails – almost Minx-esque.
And it dried super fast. Considering the fact that this is a very thick polish, it
was dry to the touch after five minutes, and hardened inside an hour. With no topcoat to aid the process. The top photo is Sp”ice”y without a topcoat, and the side photo is with a topcoat. I prefer it without. It looks more burnished, satiny and metallic (yet somehow creamy) , whereas the topcoat made it look like just another brown jelly.
I got tip-wear relatively quickly here (no chips though) so I don’t know if you’d get more than a couple of days of wear out of this. But overall, I’m a fan. Despite not really liking the name (Lil’ Bling just makes me think of a teenage rapper), I am impressed that you get 15ml for £5.99 plus a decent brush and a unique effect .
Lil’ Bling retails exclusively in Boots. This polish was sent to me for review purposes.

I must say I have eyed the Myface nail varnishes up everytime I have been in Boots lately, and I am delighted that you hae done a review of them. My only annoyance is that they have a big round cylindrical lid a la Nails Inc and I always struggle with that sort lid + brush arrangement. Thanks for the post and pics. Jan x
I bought this one, the pink one and also the icy blue one (the pink has more tip wear then the others). I love them, but I also found that they didn’t like my base coat so I didn’t use one.
I don’t mind that the colour wears off as I can easily apply another coat over if I don’t use a topcoat.
I’d need a much more interesting colour to go through all that faff with the ridge filler!
The colors are pretty! And I agree with your opinion on the promo photo. The eye shadow is amazing!
That is super pretty on you. Where’s the matching shadow? You should do an eye makeup look. Really loving this shade.
