I’m a little late in bringing you news on L’Occitane’s latest collection because I’ve been indulging in it a little too longer than I expected to. The Arlésienne range is, in a word, captivating. It’s not often a scent grabs my attention so quickly and keeps a hold of it.
A sensual blend of velvety rose and violet draped in spicy notes of saffron Arlésienne is a textured fragrance weaving floral with sensual musky notes. Three flowers hold the key to creating such a beguiling and seductive scent – the rose of Grasse, the violet of Tourrettes-sur-Loup and the saffron of Provence. True to itself, L’Occitane’s ingredients are all sourced locally.
There are seven products in the collection – Eau de Toilette (75ml/£49), Bath & Shower Gel (250ml/£15), Beauty Milk (250ml/£21), Velvet Hand Cream (30ml/£8), Delicious Gloss for lips (12ml/£8.50), Perfumed Soap (50g/£4) and (exclusively available online) Delicate Hair Mist (50ml/£15).
I was sent three to try – the EDT, Beauty Milk and Bath & Shower Gel. The Eau de Toilette begins with a citrus burst of bergamot before spicy saffron notes creep in, paving the way for the bold, crisp greenness of galbanum and the almond scent of hawthorn to seep through. At which point the petals of May Rose open up, surreptitiously flirting with the violet before white musk, ambrette and sandalwood seals the deal. The complexity of this scent comes together beautifully and the end result has become somewhat of a fixture for me. In fact it’s probably my favourite to date from L’Occitane. I feel like I may have said this before in which case L’Occitane keeps surpassing my expectations.
The Bath & Shower Gel along with the nourishing Beauty Milk serve wonderfully in layering and prolonging this bold, sassy scent.
