Sunday Riley: Luna Sleeping Night Oil

Read Time:2 Minute, 10 Second

sunday_riley_luna_sleeping_oilWould you be willing to spend £85 on a potion that promises to reverse the signs of ageing? No doubt you’ve heard about Sunday Riley’s notorious small blue bottle Luna Sleeping Night Oil* and by the looks of it, it’s clearly divided people.

Some cannot get enough of it while others feel duped by the formula containing seven essential oils and two artificial colouring agents that gives the oil its distinctive blue ink colour.

I choked a little at the price and was quick to dismiss it. Now that I’ve been using it, I’m singing a different tune albeit at a gentle marching pace.

So what is this mysterious violet coloured oil? Housed in a 30ml glass bottle with a dropper dispenser, Luna Sleeping Night Oil is a retinoid oil-based night time treatment best suited for normal to dry skin. Just a few drops of this elixir is required and it’s supposed to be applied after cleansing and toning by massaging deeply into the skin. The blue colour disappears almost instantly so no, you won’t look like smurf.

The replenishing oil then gets to work on hydrating and stimulating cells to encourage skin repair and renewal.

The key ingredient is retinol (Vitamin A), which helps to reduce pore size, fine lines and plump up the skin. There’s also chamomile, chia, grape seed and avocado seed oils to boost skin’s radiance and resilience against free radicals. You get the picture.

I don’t mind the smell, which isn’t potent and it absorbs into the skin without a bother. If anyone feels their pillow case is becoming greasy, then you’re obviously using far too much.

Since using Luna Sleeping Night Oil, my face feels more soft and supple and I have noticed a reduction in the appearance of my pores. I’ve also found I’m using less serum and moisturiser in the mornings as my skin is hydrated. Now we are in the throes of winter, that’s kind of a big deal.

The price is the deal breaker though – £85 is abhorrent but take into account how little is needed, this could easily last three to four months if used every night – maybe longer. It’s whether or not Sunday Riley’s Luna Sleeping Night Oil is right for you. It’s not for everyone, I can tell that much. Yes, it’s working for me but I am sure it will irritate sensitive and oily skin.

Sunday Riley’s Luna Sleeping Night Oil is available from Cult Beauty and Space NK.

I have this! Used to love it until it stopped working for me after a couple of months, seems my skin builds up a tolerance to products really quickly, damnit. Now it’s on the big pile of handed off skincare OH uses instead.

Oh that’s a pain! An expensive one too. How was it obvious it had stopped working? I skip this some nights because I don’t want to become too dependent on it. Has the OH tried it?? xx

I often work out how much it costs v’s how long it should last so I can justify it x

Hi Rachel, which way do you usually veer towards or does it depend on the product? I’ve sampled Tata Harper, really liked what I have been using and now yearning to buy it again. It did run out quickly (bearing in mind I was using it twice a day) but in comparison, the Luna Sleeping Night Oil is still going. Granted I skip it some nights, then again it’s not like you have to slather it on. x
