This nail varnish has been living in my stash for a million years. Every time I went to wear it, I’d always get a nail break or a ridge or a dent or something,
so back it would go, into the pit of the untrieds.
GOSH describe this as one of their “party polishes”, ie a nail varnish that is not formulated to be remotely hardwearing or lasting. I know you’ll all think that’s just a copout, but there you have it. Apparently you can eke out the wear of this by using GOSH’s own basecoat, but personally, unless you already own the basecoat, I wouldn’t make a special trip to buy it.
Now, as we all know, your nails need to be in pretty good nick to pull off a foil metallic. It’s the nail varnish equivalent of wearing pastel satin (eurgh, now there’s a bad image) in that any lump, bump or flaw will immediately be put in the spotlight. So do make sure your nails are buffed and filled to perfection before even thinking about using a varnish like this.
Application of this was fine. GOSH brushes err on the skinny side, meaning it takes me a bit longer to get perfect coverage than with other polishes such as OPI or China Glaze, but it’s ok. One coat was kind of bald, but the second evened it all up and looked great.
The main positive (in my opinion anyway) to using foily metallic varnishes is that they dry so mega fast that you can be out of the door in minutes. By the time I went back to do the second coat, after a couple of minutes, my first coat was dry. And two coats was dry and hard within ten minutes, with no topcoat.
You might want to use a topcoat here though, to prolong the wear. I put this
on (without topcoat) one evening before bed, and had a chip by lunchtime the next day. By the end of a day’s work – not manual labour but I do type hard and fast! – it was looking tired. No other chips, just tipwear, and it was starting to flake off a bit round the cuticles. It probably could have gone another day (I am hyper critical and want to remove something the moment it no longer looks as perfect as a fresh manicure) but I took it off that night.
So. I’m on the fence. I don’t like the short lifespan of this, nor the fact that you need to prep your nails so much to make it look good. But, I love the colour. Silvery, subtle and not an in-your-face green. Indeed, this is the first light green polish I’ve ever tried that hasn’t made my hands go lobster red. And for that fact alone, GOSH, I thank you.

“The pit of the untrieds” – love that! This looks good on you. How did you know it was a party polish? I didn’t realise GOSH had different types! I do have their basecoat, it’s one of those milky, slightly sticky ones but no great things to report so far.
I have 3 metallics including this one. Have to say won’t buy any more. Love he colours but do not even get a full day’s wear out of them so a huge waste of money in my eyes.
Nice color! And wow, you have really long nails! <3
I’m not really sure how I feel about this one, I can’t decide if I like it or not! It definitely looks nice on you though.
Love that metallic green. I always use Zoya’s Ridge Filler. There’s always something wrong with a nail. I also always use two coats. I love foils and metallics. This does look amazing. Stinks that they chip so easily.
Cali – I had an email from GOSH telling me that the metallics and the holo weren’t really meant to last longer than a day or two (people on here had been commenting on their lack of durability).
Britny – I agree. I wonder if they’d work better layered over another silimar shade?
Lois – Welcome! And yes. This is rather an old photo now, my nails are getting steadily shorter!
Andrea – Thankyou. It’s a strange one, isn’t it?
Lucy – I kind of gave up on ridge fillers as they just seem to take forever to dry. I may give Zoya’s a whirl if I can track one down though.
[…] appears that I didn’t learn my lesson from GOSH’s Metallic Green, as I went straight out and bought this one not so long ago. In my defence, it just looks sooo […]
