Hello, I’m back with a new foundation post. You know that series of reviews I started a few weeks ago? Well the feature took a backseat. The turbulent life of a beauty blogger with a day job means some reviews sit around in the drafts folder till the missing jigsaw piece is found. In my case it’s usually finding the time to take an accompanying photo otherwise the entire affair is kind of redundant if I don’t have photographic evidence to back up my opinion.
OK! So now we’ve got the explanation for the delay out of the way, I’ll crack on with post number 5 in my series of foundation reviews. Today is the turn of the mighty Burberry.
Burberry sits comfortably in the high-end group with its uber-luxurious range of cosmetics. I’ve sampled their eyeshadows and marvelled at their lipsticks. Their packaging is exquisite and special, bearing their famous plaid pattern (I do think Burberry trumps Tom Ford in the bullet design.)
Earlier in the year I was wandering around the duty-free hall at Heathrow’s Terminal 3 and quickly gravitated towards Burberry’s make-up stand. The incentive of tax-free prices was too good to resist and I was persuaded to try their Sheer Foundation. (I also bought a killer lipstick but more about that in a future post.)
Designed to give a sheer, luminous glow whilst hydrating the skin, it’s a fluid foundation housed in a beautiful square-shaped glass bottle with a tall lid that slides three-quarters of the way. It’s a lightweight foundation that blends effortlessly and evens out skin tone to leave it looking radiant with a natural but dewy finish. My research leads me to believe there are only 13 shades available in the range, so not all women of colour are catered for. Well I hope they have a shade for Naomi Campbell and Jourdan Dunn.
Formula wise it is a sheer and light cream fluid, illuminating the skin whilst hydrating it at the same time with UV filters for protection. In all honesty it isn’t mind-blowing. In fact it reminds me of another brand’s foundation as the formula feels so generic. I’m sure there is a standard formula made which is decanted by different brands, packaged, labelled and sold as their own unique blend.
Lasting power is fine – I can get through to the end of the working day without the need for a touch-up but if I am going out in the evening then I do need a top-up. I’m Warm Honey (No 38) by the way, which is a perfect match I’m pleased to say.
At £35 it is slightly more than other foundations but it’s Burberry so, er there. Would I purchase it again? I’m not bursting out my knickers to but it does score well on being a perfect match for my skin tone and gives a healthy looking glow so I’ll file it under ‘on standby’.
Burberry Beauty’s Sheer Foundation is available from its pop-up shop in Covent Garden, John Lewis, Harvey Nichols, Harrods, Net A Porter, Burberry stores and of course, Terminal 3 at London Heathrow.
Coverage: Semi
Verdict: Not bad but you can find a far more affordable imitation elsewhere
