Essie – Huckle Buckle

hucklebuckle2To me, this is a jaw-droppingly beautiful specimen. I wish I’d managed to do a better clean-up job on it, so sorry about that.

hucklebuckle1Check out this photo. I have no idea how I got my hand to do this, and it looks sprt of gross but at the same time I like it. More interesting than the usual bottle shot, anyway.

I have had Huckle Buckle for months and I can’t believe I have only just got around to reviewing it. I can’t put my finger on what, but the colours and sheen remind me of something from my childhood. I have no idea what though. Isn’t that weird? I just find it oddly comforting.

Shame it’s got such a stoopid name. What is a Huckle Buckle? I’ve just looked it up on Urban Dictionary and got this (not work safe) result. Hahahaha – I don’t think Essie meant this. Or did she?? Essie did bring us the godawful “Meet Balls” after all.hucklebuckle3

It’s quite similar to that Revlon blueberry scented polish (which I do have, unblogged about as yet), but is a million times more interesting. Huckle Buckle is a hybrid of blue, silver, pink and purple and is so gauzy and shimmery, without having a speck of glitter in sight.

The top sheen of it makes me think of the porcelain style glaze on the likes of the much coveted Chanel Jade. Super shiny and like it has been fired in a kiln.

It’s amazing – a lavender blue that is lit in the centre with a beautiful pinky-lilac. Soooo pretty.

hucklebuckle4Now, if only I could work out what it reminded me of from way back when. In recent times though it makes me think of my good friend Mary as we both have a mutual appreciation for this polish – I’m certain it is in her top ten, and she inspired me to buy it. And I’m go glad she did!

  1. How beautiful your nails look! This is on my Essie list. I have to buy this one soon. It reminds me of huckleberries. I used to put these in my cereal and also I had them in pie. That was the color of my cereal milk. Really shiny also. Your nails are looking exceptional. Is everything grown out now? Your nails look just perfect. Love ya~

  2. The first thing i thought was ‘helllooo sexy’ which is weird as that reaction is normally reserved for darker colors. lol.. love it!

  3. I do like this colour but it’s not something I would wear myself. It looks lovely on you though. I think people forget that Essie do have lots of nice, interesting colours, not just sheer pinks and nudes!

  4. I’m so glad you love it! Yes, it’s definitely in my Top Ten list 🙂 I guess I always thought the name was referring to a type of cake/recipe for something called Huckle Buckle, which has blueberries in it, but you have now ruined it for me~ha-ha, just kidding!

  5. Thanks Lucy. No – I’ve still got 4 broken ones – both thumbs and you’ll see soon that one of my fingers has a really short nail on it as I couldnt be bothered to replace the tip. But thankyou!

  6. Me too. I can’t figure it out at the moment but I am sure I will at some point. No doubt some My Little Pony related item!

  7. I agree. I only have a couple of other Essies to review now. One is a really boring nude and the other is a fab purple – bet you love it.

  8. I’ve got this polish in my unworn mountain – kind of reminds me of Urban Decay’s Graffiti which was one of my favorites from waaay back in the day.

I wonder if the name refers at all to the cartoon character Huckleberry Hound? He was kind a purply-blue color.

  9. Boots do a very basic range (in Nottingham, but if we have something I guess a London branch would) – think it may just be base/tops and a French set rather than colours though.

  10. In Liverpool Debenhams did do them but they’ve recently stopped, so I assumed Debenhams in London would have them. John Lewis has a few, and our new Topshop has a little beuty salon that stocks loads of them!

  11. Yup..damned attractive colour and the colour is a “my little pony” kind of shade! However, what it reminds me of is those little Parma Violet sweets you can get!

  12. I was just about to comment and say I bet it’s a my little pony thing… but saw you’ve got there already. This colour is gorgeous!

  13. when I first got to know Essie’s nail polish – this was one of the shades I liked most and put in my wishlist. I didn’t buy it though, but now that you reminded me how pretty it is… 🙂
