China Glaze Yellow Polka Dot Bikini

OK so huge apologies to any UK readers that might be experiencing a slight internal jukebox meltdown right now, courtesy of Mr Timmy Mallett & his “itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini” cover song. Please tell me at least some of you are old enough to remember this assualt on the music charts? From 1990 apparently.

So, here we have a good old neon yellow. And what a yellow. From China Glaze’s Poolside collection of 2010, this is a masterpiece of in-your-face yellow goodness.

And I do mean goodness in a serious sense. Let’s take away the fact that you probably wouldn’t want to wear this every day, and look at the fact that this is a rather good specimen. I’ve tried other neon yellows before but this is the first one that’s actually made me go “wow!” and even think about wearing it outside of the house.

Application was good. I actually ended up painting this over a pastel yellow shade as we all know that neons take forever to build on their own and are much better when layered over a nude or co-ordinating base.  What you see here is two coats. Bright, isn’t it?

So whether or not you feel you need something like this in your collection, it’s a good one. Every time I think of passing these neons on to someone else (a teenager, perhaps), I find I can’t, just in case such an occasion arises where I actually need to wear it. OK, so it hasn’t happened yet, but you never know.

And in the mean time…join in if you know the words..

“It was an Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini…that she wore for the first time today…”

Helen

  1. Thanks for the earworm…I just burst out in a chorus of It was an Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie… and my three ear old son gave me the strangest look…guess he doesn’t appreciate early 90’s cheesy pop…
Not sure I could pull off a colour like this, I’m still plucking up the courage to wear a normal yellow on it’s own! Looks greaat on your nails though 🙂

  2. Pfft, now I have that song in my head 🙁

LUSH colour though. It’s gorgeous…I’d totally wear this all the time! May have to track it down…

  3. Stop with wanting to give your polish to teenagers. It’s not like a mini skirt or a tiny little shirt. On you nails any darn shade looks great. No reason why you can’t wear what makes you happy. Helen, keep wearing those neons since they look wonderful on you!
