Well, here it is, the most famous polish in the blogosphere at the moment, with the possible exception of Chanel’s Jade.

FortuneTeller1Fortune Teller has set polishaholics in motion all over the US, as us Europeans / Antipodeans looked on in envy, as this is a limited edition varnish that China Glaze only released into US Sally Beauty shops.

Thankfully, Beauty Judy took pity on me during our swap and managed to locate one of these rare beasts for me.

I’ve now seen dozens of photos of this, including a  brilliant mattified version on Colette’s fab blog today, and I’m just not convinced it looks good on me personally.  The photosFortuneTeller3 make it look lumpy and bumpy but I can assure you that it isn’t – Fortune Teller is perfectly smooth (with a topcoat, anyway).

Coppery orange glitter flecks of all different shapes and sizes suspended in a thin black jelly, I’d read on a number of blogs that this one was tricky (or treaty, hehe) to build up to opacity so I took this on board and did one coat over an existing vampy shade I was already wearing. This did the job perfectly as it only took one coat to turn the dark purple I had on to a deep black with the trademark copper glitter.

The only issue is that due to the differing sizes of the glitter pieces, it takes a bit of effort moving them round the nail to place them in a decent formation FortuneTeller2rather than just a hotch-potch of stuck together elements. You might do well to have a needle or a cocktail stick handy.

So.What do you think? Do you have Fortune Teller? Do you want it? I’m really pleased I have it and am extremely grateful to Judy for procuring it for me. I’m not sure if I prefer this better on other people than I do on me but either way I think it is a perfect Halloween manicure.

And on that note, I hope you have a thoroughly enjoyable witching hour, whether you’re going to a party, or like us, will be turning off all the lights, watching a scary film and scoffing all the treats yourself!

  1. Hm, I have seen this a lot and really liked it but I’d be interested to see it over an orange base or something bright. I’m tired of black and very dark. I don’t like the sound of how fiddly it is to place the glitter though. Thankfully I have talked myself out of it. A it’s unavailable B I am not supposed to be buying…

  2. I think it looks lovely on you! I am wearing it for Halloween myself. I didn’t have any problems getting the glitter to place though – or perhaps i after trying Lippmann Funky Chunky everything is fantastic in comparison LOL. Enjoy the night!!!

  3. It’s a pretty amazing combination – love the orange glitter. I’d probably be inclined to give this one a go.

  4. Thanks for the shout out =) I hope you have a matte topcoat so you can try it that way too, I think matte-ifying actually seems to bring out the orange more than the shiny version.

  5. I want this but I don’t have it. I have to check the online site. I think it looks amazing on you. We had about 30+ kids. We used to get many more. Not very imaginative costumes either. Hope you enjoyed your scary movies and candy.

  6. I’m not sure how it would work over an orange as the base jelly of FT is still quite dark.

I will give it a go for you though as I have a hot orange polish in the pipeline at some point over the next couple of weeks so can try it out then.

  7. I’ve got to say, I think it’s a great novelty polish but to my eye it just looked better on other people!

  8. I’ve heard that about Funky Chunky and can’t bring myself to buy it!
Thankyou for scoring me this one! I did enjoy wearing it a lot but I think maybe it looked better on shorter nails.

  9. You’re welcome 🙂
Can you believe I don’t have a matte topcoat? It is one of those things I have been meaning to buy for ages and just kept forgetting.

  10. 30+ is loads! But I read on some blogs about 100+. Not for me thanks!

I can’t believe you don’t have this one! I like seeing if I review things that you don’t have as I reckon you have the biggest collection out of all of us!

  11. Wow, this is really not attractive. No offense to you Helen at all!! Just looks like one dipped one’s fingers into a sewer pit. Yuck! I cannot understand the buzz over this one. That being said, your long nails are still awesome!!
