China Glaze For Audrey

I can’t believe it has taken me so long to review this. For Audrey is one of those nail polishes that has attained cult status. I remember when it launched back in 2009 and you couldn’t move for swatches of it and blog commenters ooh-ing and aah-ing over how lovely it was. I think it heralded the start of the pastel craze that we seem to have every Spring as well.

For Audrey is apparently as close as a polish company has got to in recreating the infamous Tiffany blue. I do have a couple of Tiffany boxes (lucky me) but at the time of writing this, they are hidden in my garage in preparation for moving house. However, a quick Google will bring you dozens of comparisions.

Application was dire. A quick Twitter straw poll has informed me that the majority of people who own this have had trouble with its thickness and ended up having to thin it out to make it apply better. This is two thick (and I mean thick) coats that applied with pooling, bubbling, dragging and pretty much every issue you can imagine. Thankfully my trusty Nubar Diamont made it look a bit better. Not a lot though.

So. This looks utterly terrible on me. I know from previous experience that mint greens and pastel blues do me no favours whatsoever and For Audrey is no exception I’m afraid. It’s like seeing a pair of shoes that you love that just give you blisters every time you wear them. It’s just pointless for me to even try to wear these shades. The Mr also recoiled in horror when he saw this on me.

For Audrey, certainly. For Helen – not so much.

  1. While this is not a colour of interest to me either, I always appreciate it when someone sticks out their neck and voices an opinion counter to general preceived wisdom – especially when it is well explained and reasoned!

  2. I love this shade. Shame it doesn’t look so great on you. It’s rotten when a color you really like doesn’t suit you. I’m crazy about mint greens. I haven’t even tried one yet. I’m afraid it won’t look good on me. I haven’t worn this in a few years. Mine is probably thick also.
