Bourjois Number 24 (Black Carbon?)

Read Time:2 Minute, 9 Second

Here we have yet another post from Christmas finally getting its moment in the spotlight. Andy Warhol was right – every polish I own will eventually have 15 minutes (or perhaps 48 hours) worth of fame, it just takes a while to get round to it.

This was the polish I was wearing when my poor fiance was out stuck in the snow a couple of days before Christmas. I know this as I remember applying it when trying to distract myself from the fact that he had been out for hours, stuck in his car with no real sign of getting home any time soon. I am digressing, but do you find that as well as smells and songs, that certain items of clothing or nail polish remind you of events?

So. This is nearly perfect. But not quite. Had I not seen BB Couture / Vampy Varnish’s Mendocino Midnight, I would think that this was the best blackened green with glitter that I had ever seen. As Roy Walker would say, “it’s good, but it’s not right”.

This was two coats, and an absolute devil to photograph. What appears black is actually a very dark green. And it contains sparse flecks of multicoloured glitter, although the pink has come to the fore. Under a bright spotlight, it is very very pretty indeed but anywhere else and it just appears an odd, flat black-ish colour with random bits of shimmer.

And a word on the application. It has Bourjois “1 second nail varnish” brush which is this bizarre, stubby, fan shaped thing that does indeed cover nails in one second. And your cuticles. Strange.

I know the OPI Pro-side took a bit of getting used to, but this is something else again. I’m not slating it at all, I just need to try out the other polishes I have in this range before really formulating an opinion. I love the length of the handle, but it does make it annoying to store as it is double the height of my usual polish bottles.

Oh. This has no name on the bottle at all – just a Number 24, so I googled it and found another review that referred to it as Black Carbon. That’s a good name for it actually, it is like the sparkly centre you get when a lump of coal chips off.

So what do you think? Are you tempted? I bought this on a 3-for-2 offer over Christmas but I am sure they are part of Bourjois’ permanent UK range, for approx £5.50 each.

  1. I do like this on you. I bought an orange-glitter Bourjois 1-seconde for £1 from TJ Hughes but haven’t tried it yet.
I don’t like the bottles. I like big chunky bottles like Misa best.
Plain black cremes are just dull. Black has to have an edge. Yes, this is good.

  2. Nope not tempted at all….and I like “blacks” but there is something not quite right about this, it kind of looks a bit cheap and tacky! I think there are much better options out there in that price bracket!

  3. I don’t care for this polish at all. Now the BB Couture Mendocino Midnight is gorgeous. I’d like to see that one on you. Isn’t it strange that things bring back such strong memories? It’s a shame they all can’t be good ones. Have a wonderful Sunday sweetie.

  4. Ladies… I just tried to add you by your URL and its still taking me to your old page, even though this is a new URL. I dont know of any other way to follow 🙁

    xxxx

  5. What are you doing exactly? Is it through this Google thing? Helen’s explained to me that Google takes a while to refresh and pick up new links but if you are just cutting and pasting a link from the browser, you shouldn’t be having problems.

  6. No worries. 🙂 It concerns us that links aren’t being picked up by Google for example and it would seem there is not much we can do. 🙁
