Whilst I am rather overexcited about the promise of Spring, with the impending flip-flop, beer garden and barbeque season not far behind, I am kind of missing my vampy shades already. I look at them longingly in their boxes, and feel sad that they are going to be relegated to the Autumn. So do
not be surprised if a dark and wintery shade pops up now and again, as if I had to wear light colours and nudes every day, I might go insane.
Having said that, this one is “bang on trend”. I rather like these little polishes from Boots No. 17. Even if I think the brand is designed with teenagers in mind, let’s face it – there’s no age limit on nail polish. I think this cost £2.99 and is part of a range of new shades that have just been brought out to capitalise on the pastel trend. There was also a purple one called Parma Violet that was nice, but not different enough to make it into my basket.
You all know by now that I am wary of pastel creme polishes in the “mint” bracket – especially after spending a day wanting to hide my massive red lobster hands behind my back after realising how little Essie’s Mint Candy Apple did for me. However, Mint Choc Chip has just about enough blue in it
to tone it down and make it more of a flattering shade. Think of a very, very light Tiffany blue and you’re there.
Application was a headache. This attracts any little bit of fluff, dust or grime that might be in the ether as you are painting your nails. It is thick, thick, thick. This is three coats and it covers absolutely beautifully but if you aren’t fast, it will drag. In fact, I ended up wiping off my first attempt from three different nails and starting again as it was a rather frustrating process.
However, the finished article was well worth the effort. It is smooth, shiny and hard. I’m on Day Two and it still looks great. Not bad for a £2.99 polish. I can see this looking amazing on tanned summer toes, perhaps with a hint of Konad or a decal. Very pretty.
One of my Twitter friends has just given me the worst earworm. I posted about reviewing this and she immediately started me reminiscing about Gino Ginelli ice cream. Anyone else remember those adverts? “Ohhh Gino….Gino Ginelli….” hehe.
Sorry about that, folks.
Helen
Boots 17?? I don’t think I even used their stuff when I WAS a teenager! You shouldn’t save your vampy colours for autumn and winter, I still wear mine year round, especially with the summers we’ve had the past few years!
Helen, I like this much better than the Essie mint green. This has a far better hue with the pale tiffany blue in it. I think it looks great. I agree with the other comment that you can still wear your deeper shades in the summer. Nothing stops me. I just wear whatever color I want, whenever I want. Go for it!
Love it!
As for vamping…one on the street is that Chanel Rouge Noir is making a bit of a comeback this summer so you can vamp it up big time!!!
I have on a cracking Nails Inc Purpley Pinky Lilac today which everyone keeps asking the name off and I am damned if I can remember oops!
Of course that should have read “word on the street” but I am so busy looking at my nails I totally pratted my comment…tis been a long day!
Very pretty, I love anything resembling Tiffany blue!
Hi Helen!!
Lovely shade of Tiffany Blue, I’m actually afraid of those shades because they give my hands that lobster look you’re talking about!!
I’m still rocking my vampies, I find it difficult to move on to spring, I’m a winter or summer girl 🙂
Looks gorgeous on you.
Keep wearing the vampy colours. Decent sunshine often reveals other aspects to them so you miss out if you just wear them in winter/autumn.
I picked this up today and nearly bought it but resisted! It looks so pretty on your nails, Helen. Lovely finish and I can’t believe it’s only £2.99. I saw the lilac one too and of course a lemon one as well.
I really like this colour, though I prefer greener mints myself. How about a bit of bold bright pink or orange for the Konad?
Looks more blue than green to me. Not my kind of colour.
there was no need to remind me of that advert tutti fruitti, what a cutie if I remember were also words from the awful song – nice colour tho whats the 17 quality like
Your nails look quite yummy! I’m crazy about this shade. What aggravation trying to apply this! Looks lovely and you did a beautiful job in applying it. I like mint chocolate chip ice cream but it’s not my favorite.
