Well, this should brighten up your morning! This is Neon Yellow, one of three neon polishes released by Barry M last summer – along with green and pink.
As I was editing the photos for this, the boyfriend was looking over my houlder and he said my nails resembled nasty old teeth. Got to say, when you look like that, he’s not a million miles wrong.
He was also in the room as I swatched this, and proclaimed it “hideous”. It’s certainly not something I’d normally wear, not being a 13 year old girl, and all.
Unfortunately, the neon effect is nigh-on impossible to capture on camera. If you can imagine these
toothypegs being a highlighter-yellow shade of neon, rather than the canary yellow you see here, then you’ve got the effect! Not bad for only £2.99!
What I really like about this polish is the unexpected inner shimmer you get. It’s pretty, and gives it enough depth not to look like you’ve just covered your nails with neon acrylic paint. However, it is sheer, and this is about five coats. It’s not at all brush-strokey though, like you usually expect from a yellow.
So, whilst neon’s aren’t my thing, I was secretly glad this one didn’t sell when I put it in my blog sale last month.
I go to a lot of themed hen parties and you never know when I’m going to have to attend an 80s themed one….or if I ever feel the urge again to paint my nails like nasty old teeth!

Although not as bad as my GOSH one that is still pretty minging.
So far only The Orly yellow has appealed to me. Still pondering that one.
I like this. After my Illamasqua-disaster I need a yellow that isn’t brushstroke-nightmare-ville and this looks like it.
Plus that shimmer is really pretty.
Result.
I see what you mean about the camera not capturing its true colour – it really looks minging in the top photo. I’m wearing yellow to your wedding…shall I go for this on my nails? 😉
There are certain colors that just look ‘wrong’ to me as nail polish and yellow is definitely one of them. I just can’t abide by it, despite loving your nails Helen! Sorry!
