Well. Remember my less than complimentary review of All About Face’s Scarlet Red polish a while ago? Well, I thought I’d give the range the benefit of the doubt (mainly because I bought three bottles of the stuff) and try this one out.
My main complaint, if you recall, about Scarlet Red was that the formula was so totally sheer that it took eight or more coats just to achieve opacity. No need. Well, as far as that problem goes, Black Cherry is not guilty. It covered perfectly in two coats, leaving me with a rich, dark, shimmery shade that is not unlike I’d expect from the name.
So far so good. And actually, the application was fine. No problems whatsoever. It’s
actually quite a tidy polish that left me with no cleanup at all. Happy days.
But inevitably, I had a bugbear with this one too. I never got as far as testing the wear on Scarlet Red (because I could not be bothered with the hassle of waiting for it to dry) so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Sadly, Black Cherry chipped on me after a day. I used Nubar Diamont topcoat (old formula) which is usually pretty good in terms of not chipping so I’m not entirely sure what went wrong. I did a supermarket shop…perhaps I was a little too vigorous in placing olives and bread in the trolley…who knows?
It’s a shame really as I genuinely like the colour. It appears aubergine indoors, and a lovely purple with red and golden shimmer when you’re in natural light. If only the formula was better. I mean, with a classic polish like
this I would want to wear it for a few days. Sadly, it was not to be.
Should you want to take the risk, All About Face nail varnishes retail at £2.00 and are available in Tesco.

It really is a lovely colour. I hate it when gorgeous shades are let down by a poor formula. What a waste!
Dang those pesky brutal olives! Pretty colour. If it were a ‘good’ brand I’d be all over it….Shame because most ‘cheap’ stuff I bought recently has been good quality.
