Todays blogger is Lauren from Lauren Loves. As well as blogging about beauty products and trends, Lauren also has an eye for fashion. Her “crimes against fashion” segment is hilarious, and her review posts are always well considered and nicely presented. Please check her out here

1. Why did you start your blog?
I started my blog as a getaway from my master’s degree and as somewhere to channel my fashion and make-up focus. I think everyone around was bored of me randomly pointing out – wow, she’s got a Proenza Schouler PS1 or whatever so I decided to put it on my online diary. 1 year later and I’ve got loads of followers who are just as fashion minded and I’ve made loads of twitter friends to bounce ideas off!

2. How long have you been blogging for?
It was a year from the end of March! I can’t believe it’s gone so quickly!

3. What do you enjoy most about blogging?
I love the community and love in blogging. There are always girls out there ready to chat, give their opinion and help you when you need a review or opinion.

4. What frustrates you most about blogging?
A few things really! Mostly it’s when you see people apologise for not blogging much, or people who go “oh no I haven’t written a post today” because blogging is a hobby! If it’s not fun and becomes pressured then it’s not a hobby anymore. Also people who just write on your wall or send you an IFB message saying “follow me and I’ll follow you!”

5. How much time a week do you spend on your blog / reading other people’s blogs?
I probably spend between 30 minutes and an hour per post, so I guess if I write every day that could be up to 7 hours! (woah!) and reading others blogs? Well I spend most lunch breaks reading them and also maybe an hour when I get home!

6. What advice do you have for aspiring beauty bloggers?
I’d say start a blog! Think about what you really want to write about and do it. Make your blog about something YOU love because if it’s not, then it’ll be hard to write. Also don’t be scared of developing your style, my blog is certainly a lot different in content and style than it was when I started. It’s just a bit of fun so go for it!

7. What other hobbies/interests do you have?
I work full time as an Assistant Psychologist so I love that my blog can transport me somewhere ditzy and fun after an emotional day at work. I also love sewing clothes in my spare time, and I am learning British Sign Language level 2 which is a lot of fun! (Especially helpful when clubbing and my friends and I can’t hear each other!)

8. How many bottles of nail varnish do you own?
Um… probably 20! I had a huge clear-out recently and discovered I have a habit of buying pinks which are very similar so I’m trying to stop myself…

9. Do you set yourself a shopping budget, or do you purchase on an as-and-when basis?
I’m an as and when girl. I’m a bit like a boy in my shopping habits – I know what I want, I go into the shop looking for that specific item and I rarely buy anything I didn’t have on my mental list originally. Although that all changes when I go shopping in a group of girls! They lead me astray!

10. What is your favourite make-up brand, and why?
That’s the hardest question ever! I guess overall my favourite brand has got to be 17 at Boots! It’s so cheap and there are so many colours.

11. Do you ever leave the house without wearing make-up?
I recently did a 2 weeks to better skin challenge where I didn’t wear foundation out the house for 2 weeks! It was really hard, and I wouldn’t ever go out without mascara! I need it to open up my little piggy eyes! You can read about the challenge here.

12. What is your favourite beauty product and why?
It has to be lipstick! I love a bit of pink or red lipstick! It brightens up my day.

13. What is your favourite nail varnish of all time? (yep, only one!)
I love my China Glaze one in Pool Party – it’s so neon, it actually glows under UV light in clubs! Shame it’s only limited edition, I stocked up last year!

14. Tell us about the best holiday you’ve ever been on
Probably my holiday to Germany last year with my boyfriend. We’ve been together 5 years and it was our first holiday together. We got a coach trip to Germany with a coach full of old people (we must have been the youngest there by 40 years!) and went to the proper German Christmas markets! It was so much fun and very festive!

15. What would be your ideal day off?
Ooh… great question! I’d probably wake up about 10.30, shower and wash my hair and go into town for lunch at Yo Sushi! Then I’d go for a bit of a shop with friends or the boyfriend, then when I get home I’d put on a face mask and pamper myself to get ready for a yummy romantic dinner at the posh pub round the corner!

16. What is your favourite TV show?
Well for a while it was Big Fat Gypsy Wedding! I loved Green Wing when it was on, and I also like Peppa Pig! (I look after children part time! I’m not just strange!)

17. What music do you enjoy listening to?
Anything! I usually listen to Radio 1 because I’m too lazy to select my own songs!

18. What is your favourite food?
Italian or Sushi – I couldn’t choose between them!

19. Where would you most like to visit in the world? (money no object)
I want to do a cruise of the Nile, see the old wonders and the pyramids, then get a plane to Petra and see the ruins there and then on the way home stop off at Pompeii maybe. I love history and exploring holidays, I’m not a beach bum.

  1. I love Green Wing! Queued up for ages to meet the cast at a signing once! Great answers by the way, Lauren.

  2. Great travel idea. I’ve ‘done’ Pompeii but I’d love to visit the Valley of Kings and Petra.

No foundation. *shudders* Did it work?

  3. Thanks for all the lovely comments! @Jenni – yes the no foundation thing did work! it was soooo hard to do, but now I’m glad I did.

p.s. I booked a holiday yesterday… to Thailand! Forgot to say about that dream! xxx
