I’m delighted to feature today’s 20 Questions blogger. Joyce, aka Brides and Beauty. Joyce and I first got to know each other through the medium of Twitter, and it transpires that we live not a million miles away from each other as well. She’s remarkably knowledgeable about all things makeup, skincare and beauty related and a flipping lovely lady as well. Her professional website is in the link above, and you can also check out Joyce’s blog here.

1)      Why did you start your blog?
I started the blog because I wanted to talk about the brands I used and love and also wanted to talk about how a product felt and not just its name and price!

2)      How long have you been blogging for?
I started blogging about 9 months ago.

3)      What do you enjoy most about blogging?
I love to write about things I’ve tried and tested. Sometimes I get to keen and blog the product and then go back to it with my review later.

4)      What frustrates you most about blogging?
The most frustating thing is getting it to sound like I’m not selling the item. I only blog about things I like. I don’t want to be negative so prefer not to blog anything I don’t like or I think is a waste of time. I want to say to people don’t bother with certain products but I think by not blogging about them it stops that credibility.

5)      How much time a week do you spend on your blog / reading other people’s blogs?
I spend at least 8 hours a week writing and reading blogs. I also write for other blogs and magazines so that takes up a lot of my time too!

6)      What advice do you have for aspiring beauty bloggers?
Read other blogs. Get a feel for the type of style and content you want your blog to be. Never ever copy someone else’s work. A blog should be about you and your personality should be part of it.

7)      What other hobbies/interests do you have?.
I love to travel eat out and watch movies. When I go abroad I try to see what the local beauty influences are too.

8 )      How many bottles of nail varnish do you own?
I have nearly 300 bottles of nail varnish and the collection is growing.

9)      Do you set yourself a shopping budget, or do you purchase on an as-and-when basis?
I purchase as and when. I go to London once a month just to beauty shop. This includes make up, nail varnish and skincare products.

10)     What is your favourite make-up brand, and why?
I have 2 favourite brands that I use everyday so I can’t say just one. I love Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics for the flawlessness look the foundation gives. It’s the first foundation that I have used that hasn’t turned grey too!. I also love Illamasqua. They have the best eyeshadow colour palette and its growing. I love their liquid metals to add a bit of glamour to the eyes too.

11)     Do you ever leave the house without wearing make-up?
If I’m popping to the corner shop, I will go out in sunglasses with no make up. Other than that the bare minimum I would wear is eyeliner, mascara and lipgloss!

12)     What is your favourite beauty product and why?
My favourite beauty product at the moment is StriVectin eye cream. It’s the first eye cream I’ve used that has worked on my dark circles. They have definitely faded a lot!

13)     What is your favourite nail varnish of all time? (yep, only one!)
Oh no, just the one! I have to say its Throb from Illamasqua. I love red but have never found the right shade and then I found this! I LOVE it!!

14)     Tell us about the best holiday you’ve ever been on.
My best holiday was one around the Far East. I went for 3 weeks and stayed in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Phuket and Koh Samui. I loved every minute of that holiday and will definitely go back again one day. I did 9 flights in that time but it was worth it.

15)     What would be your ideal day off?
My ideal day off is lounging at a spa. I love that you can eat, sleep, swim and relax all in the same place.

16)     What is your favourite TV show?
I love Trueblood. Its one of the best shows I’ve watched that’s not scary even though it’s about Vampires. Its like an adult version of Twilight.

17)     What music do you enjoy listening to?
I love most types of music. From classical to R&B and the oldies that my parents listened to.

18)     What is your favourite food?
My fave food is Thai. It can be spicy or mild. It’s very tasty and doesn’t give me a headache like Chinese food does.

 19)     Where would you most like to visit in the world? (money no object)
I would love to go to Japan! I love all the quirkiness and would love to go to Kyoto to see a Geisha having her make up done.

20)     Tell us a secret…
When I meet people I always look at their eyebrows. If they’re a bad shape or need plucking I can’t help but look at them the whole time we’re talking!
