20 Questions with Getcha Nails Did

I am really happy to have Brooke from Getcha Nails Did as today’s 20 Questions star. Brooke is one of the first bloggers I ever got to know when Sheenie and I were starting out and I love her stalwart committment to the nail blogging cause, and constant championing of new blogs. She is just generally awesome and if you don’t follow her, shame on you! Check her out here.

1)      Why did you start your blog?

I started my blog because I love nail polish!  After first realizing that nail blogs existed, I read them for a few months and finally said I can do this!  I WANT to do this!  I haven’t regretted it a day since.

2)      How long have you been blogging for?I started my blog October 7th, 2008.

3)      What do you enjoy most about blogging?

Besides sharing this crazy nail polish love with people who feel the same way, I have met some really awesome girls!  The Internet can be such a negative place, but with nail blogs there is just such a feeling of love for each other and a kindness that I just adore.  Most of us girls will bend over backwards to help another one out to fulfill a long time lemming or simple a drug store polish that we might not have access to in our particular area.

4)      What frustrates you most about blogging?

Well, as much as I just said how positive the nail polish blogging world is – there is always that one person, always ANON of course, that will go out of their way to leave a negative comment.  Doesn’t happen often, but it does happen.  I have always had the opinion that if you don’t like what you are reading/looking at – move on, why waste time leaving a negative comment.

5)      How much time a week do you spend on your blog / reading other people’s blogs?

Yikes!  Hours on end!!!

6)      What advice do you have for aspiring beauty bloggers?

The one thing that I tell all new bloggers – make your blog about what YOU like!  You will stick with it much more, than if you try to model your blog after another one, or feel like you have to do it just like everyone elses.

7)      What other hobbies/interests do you have?

I love cooking, obviously, we have a cooking blog together.  I love anything crafty – I like to sew, make crafty things.  I also love trash TV!  I like to go fishing on occasion, too.

8 )      How many bottles of nail varnish do you own?

Probably close to 1,000.

9)      Do you set yourself a shopping budget, or do you purchase on an as-and-when basis?

I don’t set a budget, I just kind of get stuff here and there.

10)     What is your favourite make-up brand, and why?

I’m not much of a make up girl.  I wear it, but don’t really have any favorite brands.  All of my makeup comes from Walmart or Walgreens though.  I can only handle one obsession at a time and nail polish is mine.

11)     Do you ever leave the house without wearing make-up?

Yes, is that a bad thing?

12)     What is your favourite beauty product and why?

Mascara.  lol – You can tell I’m out of my element here with the makeup thing, my answers are a wee short.

13)     What is your favourite nail varnish of all time? (yep, only one!)

It would have to be a toss up of two of  my TiNS – The Diamond or The Mercury.  I had a wonderful blogger send these to me.  I can’t tell you the many hours of Internet surfing and emailing I did in hopes of trying to get this brand of polish only to be told there was no way.  Then Jen from Never Too Much Glitter came in like a knight in shining armor and offered to get them for me and send them my way.  They are the epitome of what a glitter nail polish should be, and I am forever grateful to Jen for being such a wonderful person and friend.

14)     Tell us about the best holiday you’ve ever been on

Probably my first time going to Las Vegas.  My mom took me and a friend there over spring break.  We thought we were such hot shit because neither of us was 21 yet and we had been gambling undetected.  I thought I was pretty cool – right up until the moment I was walking in the huge Mirage lobby with marble floors and dropped my bucket of quarters!  You have never heard such a sound or seen so many quarters rolling every which way, every person’s head jerking in my direction. . . . needless to say I was pretty embarrassed and not feeling nearly as hot as I was just moments before.

15)     What would be your ideal day off?

Hmmm, I am pretty laid back – so just an easy going day where I could do whatever I wanted and I didn’t have to worry about having to cook dinner, or clean up after anyone, I could do whatever I wanted, even if that meant just laying around watching tv.

16)     What is your favourite TV show?

I love reality trash tv, so to pick a favorite show would be hard.  I still think no show ever topped any of the three seasons of Rock of Love.  It’s no longer on, but I really loved every trashy second of it.  I’m also a Big Brother fan as well as The Bad Girls Club and all of the Real Housewives shows.

17)     What music do you enjoy listening to?

I listen to it all, country, rap, rock, hip hop – you name it.  However, you will find my car radio set to sports talk radio, shout out to the Sports Animal!

18)     What is your favourite food?

Macaroni and Cheese!

19)     Where would you most like to visit in the world? (money no object)

Italy would be cool – I’m thinking food aspects alone here!  I have always wanted to go to Hawaii too.

20)     Tell us a secret…

I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance!!
