Last weekend, Helen and I were joined fellow bloggers for an afternoon of drinks and canapes at Bourjois HQ where we were given an in-depth introduction to a fresh new brand simply called Une. Oui, c’est le francais. (Dear Lord, I hope I haven’t embarrassed myself for a former French A level student by saying the wrong thing.) Moving swiftly on…
Although Bourjois are behind the brand, it is essentially a creation of its own. Une wants you to know it’s a brand that respects the skin and the planet, and its philosophy is make-up that is comfortable to wear, makes you look naturally radiant and is environmentally friendly.

It offers a wide selection of shades for a high street make-up brand from fair to black skin, basing its choices on real skin tones, hair colour, eyes and lips, and vows to be made up for 98-100% natural ingredients, proudly free of GMO’s, parabens, silicones, artificial fragrances and colourings. The scent of the lipsticks derive from tomato leaves, tangerines or taragen.
It is already on sale in selected branches of Boots (as well as www.boots.com) and it is anticipated that it will reach most of their stores by September this year, as well as in Superdrug. You may have already heard of Une from other beauty blogs as Bourjois had previewed this collection recently.
As the range is specifically designed for the high street, so are the prices, starting from £4.99 to £13.99.

There are no nail polishes available as such because Une have yet to develop an organic and natural formula that would work. I somehow doubt that will ever happen but I could be wrong. Interestingly, there will be lip glosses coming in October.
The products were demonstrated on a model with explanations in how to apply it effectively. One thing was apparent and that was the time required to use these products. In a soft powdery form, they remind me very much of bareMinerals, which require building up to a level you are happy with. A brush can be used for a light look or a sponge will give more coverage.
The packaging itself is very slick, lightweight and practical, using recyclable materials with no added varnishes. The compacts featuring a mirror on the outer and the product accessible when you slide the casing open, which I can tell was very popular with the girls at this demo.

After playing around with the make-up, I trotted off happily with 8 products of my choice. They included a foundation compact, powder, two blushers, an eye pencil, eye shadow, a mascara and a lip stick/balm and I hope to show you how it looks on me soon. I wasn’t bowled over by bareMinerals but I am prepared to give Une a chance, particularly at how impressed I was by the results of the lipsticks and eye pencils.
Helen and I would like to thank Bourjois for their time and hospitality. For a closer look at Une, visit www.unebeauty.com.

The model doesn’t look a whole lot different tbh.
I’m a complete “green” except when it comes to cosmetics. How you can achieve the pigmentation without a bucket of synthetics I don’t know (not being a chemist) but at my age you need some serious chemical intervention to make your appearance acceptable.
I support your belief too, Jenni – this eco-friendly range won’t enhance your appearance dramatically and isn’t ideal for glamming up but it may be perfect for those who don’t like to wear make-up or never do but would like to start. My best friend never wears make-up, and confesses it’s partly down to not knowing how to or what to buy. She is also very eco-conscious so Une might be the step in the right direction for her.
You’re right, of course.
We’re not all product-junkies and I wish my conscience proved stronger than my desire for slap.
I should get their stuff and support them. It’s a salutary lesson and might be a bit of a wake-up call for me.
Thanks for this and for your reply.
ah so that is what you all saw!!! nice to know! 🙂 sounds kind of interesting…not really my cup of tea (i tend to only buy makeup products because they’re so amazingly fantastical i can’t live without them. i don’t see anything wrong with my current basics and have no real desire to change them!).
plus i’m WAY too impatient for buildable makeup. i need pigmentation!

It looks like the sort of thing I might wear to work – wonder how well it combines with other brands when you want to add colour?
Now this is a line I would love to hook my twin sister up with. She wears only minimal makeup and is much more conscious of cosmetic ingredients (purity and natural formulation) than I am. I LOVE the packaging, and the colors displayed for the various products looks so warm and earthy…..just love them. Looked up Boots and they do not deliver to the U.S. Pity it is not a brand available here in the U.S. Maybe, eventually it will be.
You needn’t conform to every product in the collection. Something like mascara or an eye pencil may be more than enough for some – the difference is the ingredients compared to other brands. They sound like a good idea if you are prone to allergic reactions.
Beth, we can always organise a swap if you are really keen to try Une.
Keen to have a closer look at these products but I LOVE Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals! Suffering from facial psoriasis I have tried all sorts of foundations to provide coverage and I can hand on heart say Bare Minerals is one of the best foundations I have ever used which gives me both confidence and and comfort! There really is a art in applying it!
I’m glad bareMinerals works for you, Liz. I just didn’t have the patience for it. I do have one of their blushers and occasionally use that and I have noticed they do sparkly eye shadows too – Sheenie
Hi, I’ve just spotted this blog about Une and I am interested in trying the liquid foundation and the powder one.
What did you think of it after a few wear?
Thx
