Remember the story about the Princess and the Pea? Well, that’s pretty much what bed time is like in our house. My poor husband is a dreadful sleeper. Apparently this has been the case ever since he was a tiny baby, and it seems to have got worse with age.
He’s not an insomniac or a sleepwalker, but he can be bothered by a streetlight in the next road, or a car alarm going off in the next county. So imagine my delight when I was invited to find out more about This Works Deep Sleep range. According to the nice people behind the brand, getting a good night’s sleep is all about ritual. We know about avoiding food, alcohol, TV and the internet before bed, but do we all really take the necessary time to “wind down”? I know I don’t.
Included in the Deep Sleep range are bath salts and bath oils, a balm you can rub in (apparently works well when rubbed into the soles of your feet as that area of the skin absorbs lotions faster than many other areas – who knew?), a gorgeous “sleep candle”, and what we have here, the pillow spray.
Now, I can’t convince the husband to indulge in a bath and candle ritual (although it sounds like bliss to me) but I have been surreptitiously spraying this onto the bedsheets and pillows before bed. I didn’t want him to know I was doing it as he proclaims to loathe the smell of lavender. There’s just no helping some people, is there?
Any way, the upshot is that we are both sleeping far better. It can’t be a coincidence, can it? I know most men (and some women) think that aromatherapy is a load of old gubbins, but I’m a firm subscriber. A quick squirt of the spray (which contains lavender, chamomile and vertivert) has led to deeper sleep and less interruptions. Neither of us are sleeping the night through (it’s not a miracle worker) but we are more relaxed and certainly feeling more refreshed and less fraught in the morning. And for that, I am extremely grateful.
The spray costs £15, and £1.50 of every spray sold will be donated t0 Kids Company, a charity established to benefit disadvantaged and vulnerable inner city children. The This Works Deep Sleep range is launching on 5th October in selected Boots stores and online here
