Technology in the home

I am a techie junkie. Step into my home and you will be met with a variety of gadgets. Some, I admit, are only rolled out on special occasions, a few have had the novelty factor wear off but most I have invested in with the intention to improve or make life easier indoors.

In between working a full-time job, blogging, finding time for a social life, domestic chores, family commitments and mothering a cat, what little time left is limited and how I make the most if rather depends on what tools I have around me to assist.

Legal & General got in touch and asked me to explain how technology in the home has changed the way I go about my day-to-day routine. The kitchen is certainly one place where I feel it has. I enjoy being creative with preparing food over heating up a frozen pizza, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I own a variety of high-tech kitchen gadgets from a stand-alone mixer to a hand blender with 6 different attachments that each perform a different and time-saving function.

However my most prized possession is my extraordinary, super blender. You know the one (and if you don’t, fear not for I have a post coming up on it). I bought it initially to make juices and smoothies in a bid to consume unadulterated nutrients and improve my wellbeing but realised there are other multiple uses for it as well.

Firstly the juices and smoothies bit – it takes less than 10 seconds to make a glass and as someone who would skip breakfast because I would rather stay in bed for longer (yes, slap my wrist!) , downing a drink with raw fruit and vegetables blended is filling, nutritious and sets me up for the day. And as quick and easy as it is to prepare, it’s also quick and easy to clean – just a quick a soap-up and rinse. I also love the fact it takes up very little space on my small kitchen counter. It would put me right off it if I had to take it out of the cupboard every time.

I’ve blended soups, made sauces and dips in a fraction of the time it takes with a hand blender or liquidiser AND there are no lumpy bits thanks to the powerful blades. I questioned my motives long and hard before deciding to purchase this piece of gadgetry because I have bought things in the past and then shoved them out of the way. Thankfully the gamble has paid off. I use it daily, it saves me bags of time and I have noticed a vast improvement in my energy levels and my appearance. For once here’s something that coordinates with my busy routine.

  1. Which blender do you have? Everyone seems to own one nowadays. I don’t like the idea of smoothies bu I reckon I could down a juice quickly!
