BHS might be an unlikely source for homeware accessories, particularly when it’s not in the same bargain league as IKEA but don’t be quick to dismiss the accessibility of its merchandise.

I always flock to BHS when I’m looking for new bedding and often there are in-store promotions and discounts worth taking advantage of, not to mention the quality is superior to IKEA’s.

Over the past few months I have been on the hunt for a bonbon jar to store my cotton pads in and I’ve grown restless and tired of the lack of results coming up on Google.  The cheapest I could find was coming in at £35. Then I came across the perfect sized glass jar in IKEA – the Hemsmak at £6 but it was sold out (and still is!) Pah.

BHS actually have a range of different sized jars in various patterns and styles. However it’s this plain glass affair with a bird sitting on the lid which is the winner. From the Vintage collection (I have some pretty bedding from this range too), this jar is the perfect capacity to fit a large amount of cotton pads.

The dimensions are 14cm x 14cm x 22cm, which is slightly bigger than IKEA’s but the glass is thick and strong. And I love it. I wasn’t keen on the bird to begin with, which is why I walked away from the jar a couple of months ago but you know how something starts to niggle at you until you give in? Yeah, that. The rest of the jar is simple and understated. If there’s too much going on in the design, it ends up looking tacky.

Find this glass jar online or in store at £12. (Sssh! I got it for £9.60 with a 20% off in-store promotion.)
