Sally Hansen Opulent Cloud

I’m not very good at posting stuff in a timely manner, am I? Maybe this time next year I’ll be bringing you the OPI Shrek collection or something random from Christmas.

Opulent Cloud was all over the blogosphere just before Christmas last year. Literally, if there was a nail blog I read, it had a feature on Opulent Cloud. In all honesty, I ogled the pictures but kind of skimmed over the reviews, thinking that it’d never be mine anyway.

But then, the fantastic Beauty Judy came to my rescue in a swap we did in the autumn last year. She totally sneaked this in on me and I feel very privileged to have yet another coveted and famous nail varnish to add to my collection. I believe that Opulent Cloud was tricky to find, even in the USA, so I am really charmed that Judy got one for me!

I always feel a bit miserly posting these American Sally Hansen polishes, knowing we have a large UK readership who can’t just walk out on the street and buy them.

But it’s so pretty that I can’t not show it to you. It’s glorious. Part steely silver, part lilac, and with a really strong flash of gold, Opulent Cloud isn’t exactly a duochrome but is more multifaceted and kind of fascinating. It looks like an autumn shade but it really, really works in the sun.

Application wasn’t brilliant – I think this was three coats and I did have some dragging. I was careful not to use a fast drying topcoat here though as experience has taught me that Seche Vite is no friend to anything that has more than a hint of metal or foil about it.

It reminds me of a hybrid of the Dior Lemon Balm and the Hard Candy Mr Wrong that I loved so much last year. I really enjoyed wearing this polish, and was forever turning my hands this way and that, to see it catch the light and flash the stunning gold shimmer I was looking for.

I feel bad that it took me so long to publish this review. Not deliberate or bad, just busy! And just because I am a year later than everyone else to this polish doesn’t mean that it’s no good. In fact, it might be a good and timely reminder to some of you of  this wonderful polish that you might have lurking in your collection!

So, thank you Judy, for sending this to me, knowing I would love it – and I do!

Helen

  1. Its such a pretty colour, not sure if it would work on me, but I like the gleam coming of it and the lilac echo. its such a shame that some of these colours we can’t easily pick up in the UK, but you do a fab job of showing them to us x

  2. Do people give you agro about showing polishes they can’t buy? I like to see all polishes. So what if I can’t get the polish! I can’t possibly buy everything. I can try! I have Opulent Cloud thanks to Niki of MagicMaid or Judy of Beauty Judy. I feel so bad because one of those sweethearts sent this to me. I couldn’t find it around my area. This looks gorgeous on you. I haven’t worn this since I got it. I have to dig it out and wear it again.

  3. I love Opulent Cloud, I found it on a business trip to the US last spring. And you are so in sync with me in reviewing, almost the last polish I wrote about was Mr Wrong. Love it!

  4. How kind of her to send that to you! I’m glad you posted this because I’d never seen it. I haven’t been into nail polish for very long, so that’s totally new to me!

Why doesn’t Seche Vite with foils/metallics? I don’t have it, so I’ve never tried it…

  5. I did something similar today- just now posted a Zoya Ultra Glitter that came out last fall! Sometimes we get busy!

I heard all about Opulent Cloud but never found it- it’s very pretty though! I did finally find Hidden Treasure but I’ve only used it twice…. not sure the hype was worth it for me!

  6. BeautyMaze – I don’t see why this wouldn’t work on a number of skintones to be honest. Glad you like it though!

Lucy – Not really but I often feel bad as I often read blogs and covet polishes that I can’t get!

PolishPig – Glad you like it! Mr Wrong is awesome as well, isn’t it?

Laynie – For some reason I always get dragging and a strange finish if I use Seche over a metallic, so I just don’t bother these days.

Sasha – I’ve got a Hidden Treasure review coming up at some point in the next fortnight – I know what you mean 🙂

  7. I remember this doing the rounds last year and thinking it was ovely, but I wasn’t desperate to own it. However, your mention of Lemon Balm has reminded me how much I wanted that!

  8. OK, so I never even knew this existed and now I feel I can’t manage without out it! It looks like it’s a true ‘every season’ shade that would work in any light conditions and with almost any colour clothes as well.
