Rimmel Desire

Eagle eyed readers will know that I don’t exactly review a lot of Rimmel on this blog (or any other!). This is because I am allergic to practically everything they sell. Liquid liner? Forget it. Powder? Not a hope. Even the lipglosses make me feel a bit uncomfortable. I’m no make-up snob by any stretch of the imagination but there is something that this brand uses in their ingredients, or part of their manufacturing process that my skin does not like.

I figure with nail varnish I am on safer ground though, and it’s a good job as this one is rather special. I try really hard to remember the provenance of all of my nail varnishes (no mean feat, I reckon I could have won the jackpot on You Bet if it was still going) and this one was a birthday gift from a friend many years ago. This predates the blog by a good while, and I can remember the (dreadful but cheaper) days when I only had about ten nail varnishes that used to live in an empty make-up bag on the bookshelf. Desire was one of them.

I didn’t use it very often, for the reasons I have already detailed, so when I retrieved it the other day for the purpose of reviewing it, I was quite surprised at how good the formula still was. For a small bottle and a somewhat wayward brush, this applied with no issues or problems at all. This is two coats. Impressive.

OK, so the colour isn’t that original, as we all know there are a gazillion polishes from the Rouge Noir family out there, but this doesn’t mean I don’t like it. I do. And it’s very flattering, and about £13 cheaper than a Chanel.

What do you think? Are you a fan of Rimmel products? And does anyone else now have that U2 song going round and round their head? “Desiiiire!”

  1. I personally love polishes by Rimmel. They don’t have the most original colors….not by a long shot but I have managed to collect quite a few of their polishes by now ayway.

The main reason for why I love Rimmel is because their polish seems to chip the least on me, and EVERYTHING chips on me. I have a job where I use my hands a lot, both for my actual work and also cleaning at my job so my nails rarely escape a workday without my polish chipping, but Rimmels formula seems to really adhere well to my nails. So they get top marks from me. My only beef with them is the color selection. It’s pretty, but also pretty basic.

  2. Who cares if it’s not an original color? It’s a gorgeous one and looks so pretty on you. I have about 10 Rimmel polishes. I need more!

  3. Wow! I feel exactly the opposite… I often stand and stare at the array of beautiful colours on the Rimmel stand and then walk away sadly knowing that, cheap as they are, I’ll be wasting my money, because they chip within the day. The worst offender? Their so-called long lasting formula. Even with base coat, 2 coats and a top coat. I day’s wear is the most I have ever had without chipping.

Sometimes, it pays to spend more!
