Urban Beauty United (UBU) is a new and affordable beauty and accessories brand on the scene. With bright and vibrant colours, their make-up tools are probably the most eye-catching of all with an array of sponges and brushes to choose from.
The Face Dozen Foundation Sponges* comes in a pack of multi-coloured square sponges for applying and blending liquid foundation.
Made from hydrophilic foam (and not latex), it’s supposed to be more durable than conventional cosmetic sponges, absorbing and locking in water in order to make application a breeze. As with any cosmetic sponge, you wet it first (it will expand) before use. When finished, wash with shampoo or another detergent and allow to dry.
Admittedly I was dubious over a tiny square of sponge but when put to the test, it works. To use you press the foundation onto skin, then feather to blend before blending out to avoid any streaks. My skin looked smooth and flawless from using this sponge. The amount of foundation used was surprisingly minimal. I’d put that down to the smooth surface of the sponge acting as a barrier against absorbing the foundation. When I washed the sponge afterwards, very little product washed out.
I’m not sure how many uses you can get out of one sponge but I’d hazard a guess it would be at least half a dozen. it’s a quick fire solution for short term gain.
The sponges are great for travelling, weighing next to nothing and taking up little space plus they dry faster than a brush though they aren’t the easiest to clean thoroughly without the risk of eventually tearing. Nonetheless, they are a quick-fire solution for short-term gain and I am definitely going to pack a couple for California.

Asda and Tesco are named stockists but don’t appear to have this product online so it may be available in stores. Unfortunately I do not know the price of these sponges but I think they are around the £3.50 mark.

Certainly sounds a product to take away with you. Do the different coloured sponges all do the same thing? I’ve yet to use sponges for foundation, but having read this and also a review of the real technique one too, I think I need to invest!
