Last weekend I bravely put away all my winter clothes in the attic and brought down my spring and summer wear. The fact that storm Katie ripped through the country throughout the Easter weekend did not put me off. Besides, I am going to California next week with my bestie, Leanne.
Apart from starting my packing almost two weeks early, I’m also preparing for the two week holiday (a road trip no less) with time pencilled in for a brow tidy, waxing and nails.
With the temperature in L.A averaging at 24 degrees (and 32 in Vegas!), I intend to wear some sandals so it makes sense to prep the feet first. Step forward Scholl’s Velvet Smooth Wet & Dry Foot File*.
Now I’ve heard good things about this gadget. In fact the original Pedi Velvet Smooth Electronic Pedicure Foot File has been a huge hit around the world since it debuted onto the market. Now Scholl has created a wet and dry version, waterproof and safe to use in the shower or bath should that be a preference. I’ve never used the original one but I noticed it runs on AA batteries and costs £20 less. It’s also got a thicker handle.
If you’re contemplating investing in a foot file, you might as well skip straight to the latest version. Scholl’s Velvet Smooth Wet & Dry Foot File basically buffs the hard skin off your heels and soles and it does this gently yet effectively.
The handheld gadget is ergonomically designed for easy handling, rechargeable and cordless, and comes with two speeds. It’s also lightweight so easy to take on your travels. All the action comes from the roller head which is removable so when the effects of it have worn off, it is easy to replace with a fresh one.
To get started, the foot file has to be charged first which is dead easy. Included in the pack is a USB cable that you attach to the plug and then into an electrical socket. The foot file has two silver dots that must be aligned with the charging dock. Whilst charging, a green light will flash before it turns solid green to indicate it is fully charged and ready to use.
Once you’re ready, switch it on and glide the foot file gently back and forth until you reach the desired level of softness. Handling the foot file properly was tricky at first as it kept stopping which meant I was applying too much pressure. It is surprising how little force is required (as opposed to using a manual foot file), in fact it’s barely noticeable.
After I’d got to grips with it, I thought I’d watch House of Cards at the same time (multi-tasking – I do it when I wax my legs too) but after a few minutes, I discovered I was done. I stared at the foot file in disbelief and it’s only when I looked close enough did I see the fine, dusty remnants of the buffing caught on the file beneath the roller. I then washed my feet and moisturised them, and sure enough they felt much more smoother and softer.
To clean, it’s simply a case of rinsing the roller head, wiping it dry and popping the foot file back in the drawer until next time.
I prefer to use this dry than wet as I think it is more effective at buffing the skin. It is not suitable for those with diabetes and anyone with poor blood circulation. It’s also worth pointing out that there is a lithium-ion rechargeable battery inside which will eventually run its course and cannot be replaced so it must be disposed of correctly at your nearest approved recycling centre and not thrown away with the usual household waste. Sorry, I’m big on my recycling…
Scholl’s Velvet Smooth Wet & Dry Foot File is a nifty little device that works fast and thoroughly at removing hard skin than any manual foot file could. No more cracked heels with this, only perfectly pedicured tootsies.
Scholl’s Velvet Smooth Wet & Dry Foot File is exclusively available at Boots until 1st April and currently on offer at £44.99 from(normally £59.99). The kit comes with the rechargeable foot file, roller head, charging dock and cable and a plug. The replacement Roller Heads are also available in coarse (as well as regular). A pack of two costs £12.49. For more information and to see the rest of Scholl’s pedi range, visit www.scholl.co.uk.

No effort needed and it’s so quick. I don’t know why anyone would want to bother with a manual foot file!
