This is a re-posting of one of my favourite ever polishes. Whenever I want to wear a nude shade, I always reach for this one. So it was only right that I showed it to you again. Going back to my review from early 2010, nothing’s actually changed as far as my emotions regarding this polish, so I’ve re-posted the review (with new and improved photos) for those of you who haven’t been following us that for long!
Today’s blog post is brought to you courtesy of one of my favourite bloggers ever – London MakeUp Girl. At some point I must have mentioned the fact that I wanted to try Rescue Beauty Lounge but that I was really reluctant to pay the extortionate shipping costs (but hey, you get free international shipping if you spend over $200….yeah right). Any way, the upshot of this is that I am now the proud owner of three gorgeous RBL polishes that Grace decided would be happier with me.
What an awesome gift, and one for which I am extremely happy and grateful. Anyway, as any of you who watch Blackadder will know, no-one likes a gloater, so on to the polish.
I’m not entirely sure when Grunge first appeared on my radar. I mean, yes, in the 1990s with Pearl Jam and Soundgarden and a lot of the bands that I still
listen to today, but in this instance I mean Grunge the nail varnish. I think it was released around the same time as I started devouring nail blogs and it came up time and time again on various sites I was reading.
What can I say – it just called to me. It’s my kind of shade. Kind of beige, kind of grey, kind of mushroomy. Call me uninteresting, but if I could only wear one type of shade for the rest of my life, this would probably be it. I can’t even really explain why I like it so much as I know to a lot of you, this is going to appear really boring!
I’d heard a lot of things (all good) about RBL’s application. To me, this was just ok. But remember, I have big nails, so what works like a dream for a lot of people often doesn’t cut it with me. Yes, the consistency of the polish is beautiful and you can certainly tell it is a quality product from the way it simply flows onto the nail, but I struggled a little bit with how skinny the brush is. It took me about six swipes to cover one nail whereas normally I manage with three. (less with an OPI pro-wide).
Grunge required three coats. I got a weeny bit of dragging when I reached the tips but I think this is because it dried faster than I was expecting it to. Still, only a real eagle eye would be able to tell this so it’s the mini-est of mini complaints.
So – what do you think? Does anyone appreciate it as much as me? I love the fact that it is kind of murky and I suppose a nude with an edge to it. A lot less boring than all the mannequin hands everyone was sporting a few weeks ago, and I really love it. So thankyou again to London MakeUp Girl for helping me realise a lemming – this really is a nail varnish I never really thought I’d own so you can imagine how happy I am.
Now, I’m off to remember my teenage years by playing Pearl Jam’s Ten at full volume!
