Face masks come in many forms. The ones I’m familiar with are of the muddy and creamy variety, and usually the results I’m after is impurities being drawn out with the aftermath being left with soft, clean skin.
Mind you, I do a spectacular job of neglecting my facial pampering duties purely down to laziness. I will cleanse, exfoliate and do my routine skin care regime religiously but ignore applying a mask. Every now and then, it would be good of me to indulge in one and well, just chill out.
One such product that only needs 10 minutes is REN’s Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask. It’s a potent bio active exfoliating mask that removes dead skin cells and renews the complexion, improving skin tone and radiance and reducing the appearance of fine lines. It looks like marmalade and smells like it too. Actually extracts of Passion Fruit, Grape, Pineapple and Lemon contribute to its fruitiness.
It’s a sticky looking and feeling face mask and although it says it’s for all skin types except those prone to sensitivity, it sure as hell tingles – well, it’s a peel mask after all. Once time is up, you remove the mask with a damp cloth although I prefer to use a flannel as the cloth enclosed with this product is one of those muslin ones which don’t do anything (for me).
Straight away my skin looked smooth, bright and clear, more awakened in fact and it also felt very soft. A few hours later when I was about to apply make-up, I noticed my face was glowing. To be honest, I hadn’t used this mask for quite some time (several weeks, in fact – eek!) so to get immediate results is pretty remarkable. I didn’t suffer any adverse effects, blotchiness or get any kind of other reaction, but if you are super sensitive then I would avoid this at-home-peel mask. If anything, the irritation may be too much to bear.
It’s advised to use this once a week and I can see why because of the glycolic acid ingredient. My knowledge and experience of using glycolic acid isn’t great because up until now, I’ve never tried it (or any such chemical peel mask) but I know it’s something you ought to use carefully because it can feel quite harsh on the skin. Having said that, this is a paraben-free formula, also void of other nasties.
The mask comes with a pump so you only use as much as you need and you can see how much is left. At £30 for 50ml it’s much cheaper than going for a salon facial and it will last weeks. I’ve probably used this four times and still have two-thirds remaining.
This is my first experience with a REN skin care and I can’t say I’m disappointed but I don’t think it’s for everyone so approach with caution. If you’re a fan, do let me know what other REN skin care goodies you’d recommend.
