Purple Comparisons

Read Time:1 Minute, 20 Second

After reviewing a number of purple and blue polishes over the last week or two, I thought it was high time I got to comparing the most similar ones.  You’re getting a bit of a sneak preview of some shades here as there are a few that I haven’t written about yet.

All the bottle shots below the picture are in the same order as they are on the nails. And you’ll spot that I had to flip one of them as I got it the wrong way round – ooops.

Anyway – feast your eyes:

Obviously I can tell the difference between all of these (just) but hopefully this has helped. For The Asian Girl – I think Sexy Divide is the closest match to Baptiste but no substitute for it.

The ones that have already been reviewed in detail are: Nubar Peacock Feathers, OPI Ink, OPI Russian Navy, Illamasqua Baptiste, LA Girls Groupie, Barry M Vivid Purple, China Glaze LOL. If you have any other questions or comparison requests, please let me know!

  1. I’d say there are no dupes there at all. But that’s only going to encourage me to buy the ones I don’t have! They all look lovely on you, as usual. I’m liking Illamasqua Poke. I think I might need to take a trip somewhere to see all their polishes in person, you really can’t tell the colours from their website.

  2. I love holos so ChG LOL stands out for me.

As for blues? What about Mystical Knights by Diamond? It has a lovely oily finish to it. It really needs 3 coats and the tip wear isn’t great but Diamond are great for the price and Mystical Knights has a great quality of depth.

  3. Love your blog, but you need to get some better lighting. It’s impossible to really assess your colors when you have orangey tungsten lighting.
You need more light or color corrected light.
Your work is wasted because your photographs are so bad!!!!

  4. The swatches on the website aren’t great, but I know Illamasqua are looking into it t improve them.
I have a load of meetings this week so have to be relatively work appropriate but I’ll get straight onto Poke for you after that 🙂

  5. Blues? OK cool – I have a fair few blues so that can be the next comparison project 😉

I like the sound of that Diamond one – shame I’m on a no-buy for a while!

  6. Thanks for your input. I’m sorry you feel that way – remember, I’m not a professional photographer, just doing the best with the tools I have.
And I did think my photos were improving. It’s hard as it gets dark so early here.

  7. I very much go along with that, Helen.
There was some sun this morning and my nails looked very different.
But it’s dark so early now. And when it’s dreary to boot you just don’t get full value out of your varnish. I don’t anyway.
My dark blue nails look black under electric light – a shame.
I think your pix are great.

  8. I wrote a nice long reply about flood lights and miners lamps and the PC timed out on me…..doh…..I found that comment about lights very amusing…..Helen you really must try harder, see me after class!!!

Love the Baptiste and Barry M Vivid Purple….as you know I love purples very much!!!

  9. This was a really timely post for me. I just ordered Baptiste from Sephora. They are having a friends and family sale so I did some damage to them. Of course the colors I really wanted were sold out. This purple looks gorgeous. Thanks for the comparisons. Next time I think you should be outside bright and early to get good pictures. Maybe take the day off from work to get some good pictures. Or you could buy some progessional lighting to take some snaps. I mean really! Can’t you take a decent picture after all this time Helen! Nah! I think your pictures are fine. Doesn’t everyone have a horrible time getting purple to show up? Your an angel and don’t worry about your photos. Please go back under your bridge and bug someone else. Helen doesn’t deserve it.
